Hey guys. First time here. I am setting a small starter army to battle some friends.
Hq
Warboss
Warbike
Stick
Pk
135 points

Troops
20 choppa boys
2 rokkits
1 nob
Bosspole
Pk
174 points

Fast attack
9 stormboyz
1 Nob
Bosspole
96 points

4 bikers
1 Nob
Big choopa
Bosspole
92 points

Total points 497
Total orks 37

What do you think? Also as I read here, some say a squad of shootas is better then a choppa. Is it because of the range so there is a change to kill at the distance? Should i change to those?

Also should I keep the storboyz?

The strategy is simple. Boyz in the middle and fast attack plus hq to flanck.

Thanks in advance

Is this a CAD detachment? You'd need two troops.

Shootas can be good. The thing is boyz just aren't that great, so the tendency is to keep them as cheap as possible.

Stormboyz aren't the most competitive, but they are fun.

What I think: You're starting out small, so I'd just get what you like.

What factions are your friends playing?

We are just joking around with it so we are not really following any mandatory detachment. Is it bad starting like that? I know I loose hammer of wrath but then again I need the rule book to know it.....

They wil use chaos space marine (no faction), imperial guard and space marine.

The ork codex is a bit underpowered compared to the others - so to win games you need to be kunning and use your best units.

Biker boss with warbikers is good.

Foot slogging boyz are bad.

Stormboyz, unfortunately, are bad.

Boyz in a trukk would be better (still not the best choice, since the best choice would be to take Zadnaskark and take warbikes as troops) but a lot of us ork players still do it cause...boyz.

Some really good units you should add are:

-deffkoptas (so cheap, fast, rockits)

-mek guns (lobbas especially, very cheap very good)

-painboy (make bikers even tougher)

-3 meganobs in a trukk (called a MANZ missile) one nob has 2 killsaws (not the boss nob so he can't get killed in challenge)

-kustom stompa (forgeworld rules, lets you make the one from codex for 200 points less)

-Buzzgob's kustom stompa (a 400 point stompa - really)

-tankbustas (though with new faq you can only use 1 meltabomb in the assault phase) but still should be pretty good (just take some bomb squiqs and a tankhammer or 2)

-the only way I run footslogging shoota boyz...is to take 30 of them with a painboy and a warboss with lukky stikk and megaarmor that sits at the front and tanks for the unit (2+ rerollable) so that noone dies

Zhadsnark (biker boss makes bikers troops) and Buzzgob (for his stompa) can be found here:

Eh, he's just starting out the game, nd at 500 points to boot. I don't think he needs to go hard on competitive tournament meta. His friends are playing AM and CSM after all.

I think your list is fine enough as is for having fun with your friends. You're just starting out, so get the models you like.

Yes but as the FAQ pointed out....in the grenades section it says you can only use 1 per unit per phase. Which we all didn't notice somehow (cause it actually says 'throw' one per phase which we all assumed meant only the shooting phase, but apparent'y they also 'throw' the grenade in the assault phase)

Yes...but...there are really bad ork lists based on footslogging boyz. And there are really decent ork lists with warbikers as a focus and other fast/powerful units like meganobs and tankbustas in trukks and deffkoptas. As a starting Ork player I think this is really really important to know so you don't end up painting 50 boyz to find out they are garbage.

I don't disagree with any of that, everything you said I've agreed with in my competitive ork article linked in my sig.

Collecting, building, and playing the first 500 points could take awhile. In the meantime he's not playing any competitive games and might not even know what ITC is. By the time he's ready to expand to a competitive 1850 point list in six months or so the competitive meta could be totally different. New FAQs, formations, detachments, FW releases, ITC rulings, new supplements, new errata, new codexs, or new rules will make today's must have to tomorrow's leave it at home. We've seen it many times. Even this new FAQ has shifted ork meta with two sentences.

Not that any of that competitive advice isn't worth mentioning, but when you're just getting started it's fun playing what you like. They're not even playing bound lists yet, so I don't know how interested he is in going competitive. Anyway, you did a good job going over the competitive aspect so he knows what to expect. I just don't want to discourage him from buying what he likes or encourage him to buy competitive models to play a style he doesn't really like in an environment that doesn't require it. Collecting, modelling, and painting are big parts of the hobby too. I just wanted to point out CSM and AM probably won't really be rolling him no matter what he takes, so he might as well have fun with it.

Anyway, all the best to you and the OP. Happy gaming!

Hei guys thanks for the tips. One question these army list with this biker boss arent from 6 edition? Can i use it with 7 edition rules?

Sorry about these noob questions. A lot changed since the last time I looked at this

It is from 6th but it's totally legal to use it in 7th, there's just some minor changes. Big gunz are now mek gunz, but you still can't take them and he counts as having a warbike in his wargear so he gets the boost jink bonus and a 4+ save.

Thank you all for the tips.

Hq
Warboss
Warbike
Stick
Pk
135 points

Elite
2 meganoob
1 boss
Truck
150 points

Fast attack
3 separate deffkoptas
90 points

6 bikers
1 Nob
Bosspole

What do you think about this one? Also should the meganoobs have all bosspoles? And what about the warbiker noob should he have a big choopa or a pk?

Thanks in advance
