So I finally cleaned out/sorted all of my models last month and of course I have a bunch of DA models from the starter set. After putting them all together I'm finally onto how I want to paint them. So here's the crazy-ish part of it. I want to paint them as Fallen Dark Angels, which is easy enough right? Black and white, some silver and done. However I like a bit of a challenge, so I thought of this crazy idea where Alpha Legion members were disguising themselves as Fallen. While the paint scheme may be the same I wanted some subtle way of still showing off a bit of the dark blue and green color of the Alpha Legion.

What I was thinking of doing, was to start by priming them white. Them airbrush them all the dark blue, followed up by a strong dry brush of black. In theory this should cover most of the flat surfaces black, while leaving a bit of the blue in the recesses where the dry brushing won't get.

The last part, incorporating the green, is where I'm having the most trouble with what direction to go in. I was thinking of doing silver, instead of white, for the heraldry and such, with a green wash. Then followed up with another silver highlight. However I've thought about going that same route, but with white. Not sure which to do.

So, to whomever takes the time to read this long winded post, not only do I appreciate your time I also appreciate your advice and/or comments. If anyone has experience with doing something along these lines any pictures or what have you are welcome. Thanks in advance.

why not make it as the fallen have joined the AL? that way you can be a bit more obvious with it. i cant help thinking a heavy drybrush of black over blue would look kind of messy. give them the regular blue-green over silver colours, but make the green darker and slightly more dominant, maybe a zenithal highlight up to the blues, then add alpha/omega symbols and subtle hydra emblems to their plates.

I've always thought the "Alpha Legion in disguise" look would be great. If I did it I'd:
Paint them Alpha Legion.
Seal thoroughly in gloss.
Coat with hairspray.
Paint over that in whatever Legion course they're pretending to be.
Take a toothbrush and scrub the false colors so the paint is heavily chipped and scratched.
Boom, Alpha Legion that painted Dark Angels colors over their armor but have been battle damaged since then.

If you want to get real crazy, you could paint them black/green then spray a translucent color of florescent blue over it. so you can use a black light to reveal your treachery

Its just florescent paint

i dont know if it would really work if its super thinned.

valljeo makes some.

Its usually a VERY bright pigment so not sure how well it would work thinned

however under black light it should glow which is cool.

Wow, one thread I can contribute to twice! Unusual.
I've tried blacklight and glow in the dark paints for my Chaos dudes and wasn't super impressed with either. They're both pretty thick so after thinking the effect is negligible. Enough coats to get any files and it's too thick.
Just my experience.

So I've finally finished one model. The green metallic paint I picked up from a craft store turned out pretty good. The blue isn't as pronounced as I was hoping but I'm fine with it being more of something you notice when you really look at it. Going to continue this through the rest of the unit, and see how it ends up
