maybe I'm just crabby, but I log on to dakka and come to the 40k background section and it almost feels like groundhog day rehashing the same questions ever few days, weeks and months. I know that this forum is for specifically discussing the fluff, and I am as guilty of asking repetitive questions as the next git, but I do think if we created a sticky topic with links to select old discussion boards at the top under the rules for frequently talked about topics that could serve sort of an archive for popular or contentious topics, (Missing primarchs, Alpha legion, most powerful X. emperor's plan) it would help. New people could read it and get the info they are looking for and then ask a tangential question to bring new discussions, and veteran users could point to the sticky when people ask said questions.
It probably seems unnecessary, but it is a little disheartening to log on and see the same group of questions being asked over and over again. While they are valid questions, I believe they have been covered.
this may belong in general discussion but as it specifically applies to this board i thought this was the most relevent place to post it

We just had a thread not too long ago in the Nuts and Bolts asking for a stickied thread of Lost Primarch discussions.
Essentially, it boiled down to: 1) Stickied threads are largely ignored by the masses.
2) People still are likely to create lost primarch threads, and people will berate the user for not only making 'yet another lost primarch thread' but for also ignoring the stickied thread, and then the discussion will continue on as normal.
There were more points mentioned, but those were the prominent ones in my memory.

Yup. To give the exact quote by insaniak:
insaniak wrote:It's been discussed in the past (I know, the irony, right?)... The problem is simply that people don't read stickies... There's been a sticky in the 40K General section for 6 years now telling people (right there in the title) to post rules questions in YMDC, and yet we still have to move threads out of General on a daily basis.
All that would happen if we did this is that you would still get the threads being started, but at some point in the first page of replies you would get someone telling the OP to go read the sticky, and the rest of the thread would continue as normal.
Ultimately, as you spend time on a forum like this, you're going to see topics repeat themselves. That's just the nature of the beast. If you're bored with a given topic, just don't open the thread. You don't have to respond every time someone asks the question... someone else will.
And I think that last advice is a very good one. No one is forcing you to open those threads. If you are bored with the same threads and questions constantly being rehashed, then simply don't read them.
I think that the same questions and topics coming up again and again is inevitable because there is a constant influx of new people who have never seen those questions and topics before. It would be kinda mean to force those people to read through a 100-page sticky thread just to get their fluff questions answered, no?

thing is people will discuss the "Great mysteries" of the setting until those great mysteries are answered, (useally to the dissappointment of the fanbase more oft then not)

@OP: I feel your pain, but the the others (and insaniak) are right. As much as I'd love a "Lost Primarchs/Lost Legions" sticky, it wouldn't actually do much good.
All we can hope is that when people start these topics, they do their research and bring something (relatively) new to to the discussion.
