Hello all!

So to kick things off I have this friend who plays Necrons, He hasn't played me in a long time (because of the abuse I gave his army as I called them op for months on end) He has currently beaten me with them 10+ times. Now the early games we were both learning to play so i was running crazy bad lists back then , but as the games went on I really wanted to beat him but just kept getting beaten, He has decided to stop calling himself "the retired champion" and has agreed to battle me tomorrow. I would really like to win. I however am not in anyway a competitive player I win most of my games but I still am worried i will lose tomorrow to these blasted necrons. So what I need are brutal honest opinions on this list, I have a fairly large selection of models too such as termies,a heldrake etc so if the suggestion is good and i have the models i will listen! I have gone with a swarm(ish) approach as i have read necrons prey on elite Armies. I am almost certain he will run the decurion detachment as the last few battles he played against some of the other lads in my group he used it and praised it.

So please what do you guys think?

If your building to fight necrons, I'm not sure I would run plague marines. Toughness 5 doesn't mean much against strengh 5 gauss.
Definitely run heldrakes if you have them.
I don't know the deamon codex at all but the CSM flying deamon prince is good.
The new Sorcerer cabal is REALLY good. Dark ritual is amazing and access to the telepathy and biomancy tables are great.

Thanks for the reply Jeremster, The plaguebearers will be taking all the shots, the marines will be coming up behind a wall of them, the plague marines are mainly for holding objectives and the plague marines are just tarpit/walking walls.

I was torn on the helldrake, I've used them before but I never really felt they were amazing against necrons as ap3 means nothing to them and they have re-animation protocol.

The cabal is good but it's not something i would run unless i have four biker sorcerers.

What would you suggest instead of the plague marines?

When I used to play CSM, I spammed 2 CADs with as much autocannon havocs.

2 sorcerers, 4 squads of cultists, 6 squads of havocs with 4 autocannons per squad. That was 24 autocannons that shot down the necron flying bakery and killed warriors. What it did not do was kill immortals and the monolith and the honor guard. Sadly it was a draw since my force just sat around as a gun line. Mobility is very important.

I don't have nearly enough autocannon or similar models for the matter to pull that off and although we allow it in my group a proxy of that size might bother my opponent.

Maneuverability is key to this list, the goal is advance the plague bearers down the middle slowly to the necrons, He can either shoot at them or let them closer ready to tie anything up then with the span and the bikes jump in and start hammering out the necrons, it's all about getting into combat with the plague bearers really just being an unavoidable distraction.

I have taken out one squad of plague bearers and replaced them with nurglings so the the herald now has the locus of fecundity and the doomsday bell (which lowers all ld of mdoels around by -1)

For those who don't know the rules of tallyband

Requirements: Epidemius or 1 Herald of Nurgle, 7 units chosen in any combination from the following list: Plaguebearers of Nurgle, Nurglings Restrictions: None. Special Rules: Distracting Swarm of Flies: Enemy units cannot fire Overwatch against units from a Tallyband. Enfeebling Nausea: At the start of each Assault phase, enemy units that are locked in combat with any units from a Tallyband must pass a Leadership test or reduce their Strength and Toughness characteristics by 1 for the duration of that phase. Harbinger of Nurgle: If the Herald of Nurgle from this Formation is a Lesser Locus of Virulence, Greater Locus of Fecundity or an Exalted Locus of Contagion, the special rules associated with that locus affect all units from this Formation that are within 12″ of him. If such a unit is also affected by another locus, they will receive both benefits. Source: Warzone: Fenris
