Neophyte Undergoing Surgeries

Hello Dakka,
Me and my friend wish to expand our model collection by casting models such as tanks, and troops.
Yes I know that doing this commercially is illegal, but it's for personal use, GeeDubs can't stop that.

So, what would be a good and efficient start for two newbies to start casting sprues? We do intend to cast sprues, not just individual pieces

Thanks all

The short answer is, you're in way over your head. The long answer is, 3d printers are your best option.

Do I have something in my teeth?

The short answer is threads promoting recasting get locked, so I expect this thread to get locked.

But you can google around for some info.

Don't try casting sprues, the reason models come on sprues is because they're high pressure injection cast using machined metal moulds, it has hugely expensive start up costs. Small scale casting is going to be metal or resin, you're not going to want to cast whole sprues when doing that.

honestly, I wouldn't think trying to home-bodge recasts would be worth the time, money, and effort...best case scenario: it all works about as well as can be hoped, and you're left with obviously dodgy-looking models, lacking in detail, etc...worst case scenario: you spend a bunch of money on casting stuff and it winds up not working at all.

if you're short on cash, trust me, I feel your pain, but I'd say your best bet would be to shop around for second-hand stuff on ebay, do some paint-stripping if necessary, and build up your collection of at least the more common stuff that way

While each person is certainly entitled to their opinion that it is morally okay to steal via copyright infringement (aka recasting without permission from the copyright holder), Dakka as a site will not be party to conversations that help promote such a concept, as we (the owners and moderators of this site) do not believe that it is morally okay to do so and therefore do not want to promote such activity...not to mention that such promotion can help to bring negative attention from the copyright holders to Dakka.

Therefore, in a general thread discussing whether or not recasting is morally okay, anyone is free to share their opinions, but in a thread like this, the fact is, they are doing something illegal and therefore is not something that should be condoned on Dakka.

locking thread now...

We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
