I am not a fan of the old resin model.

I thought I could start with this autarch

Baharroth needs fancy wings, sword and gun. The autarch's pistol would need to be swapped for something that looked a bit more special.

Perhaps bigger wings. Which kit could supply them?

Any other ideas or fluff considerations? (Like would the rune on the autarch's hat be inappropriate?)

For wings you could try the Dark Eldar Scourges (feathery wings). You could also go for four wings (a bit offset) for a more alien look. You can find the correct rune in the top right here: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Swooping_Hawks (you could probably cut it down a bit and resculpt the rest) and here's Baharroth's entry: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Baharroth . Also if you want bigger wings you could look into the AoS monsters, here are a few links:
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Flamespyre-Phoenix
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Karl-Franz-on-Deathclaw
and something smaller:

You could give him a shuriken pistol (he seems to have one and the model has a pistol too) and add the lasblaster via a sling. That would make posing easier because you wouldn't need to balance a rifle and sword in two hands. For the gun you could look into the swooping hawks exarch model or again the Scourges (they have rifles you could convert from dark to regular eldar). Illic Nightspear also has a big rifle.

Silly question...could you buy the old metal Baharroth and simply use his wings/weapons etc. on a model you prefer? Just combine the two models.

Maybe use a standard Swooping Hawk for the head.

I would use one of the helmeted Scourges with Bird Wings as the basis, carve slits into his helmet to give Baharroth's knightly look, sculpt some feather crests out of GS, and then kitbash a lasrifle and powersword.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

I think those wings are a little too big. Or, for the venator, I think the style is too different to eldar. Thanks for the suggestions, though.

I did not know about the scourge models. They are good. I think this is the way I am going to go.

I should have said, but one of the things I dont like is the thickness of Baharroth's wings. New plastic bits seem to be much thinner.

I think I will try
autarch body
scourge wings
swooping hawk (possibly exarch) head
some gun from somewhere.
rune chnaged to swooping hawk

thanks for the tips.

Fantastic - I love the conversion you accomplished and the paint job is sharp as well - congrats!

Awesome, great conversion and paintjob!

The only thing that jumped out at me - or rather didn't - was the sword, it gets swallowed by the wings visually.

I have had the same feedback from others. I agree. Perhaps I should have done it glowy green, like the eyes.
