So normally i thought blasters were decent but they don't seem too hot all the time. They can deal with a variety of opponents alright. Haywire blasters sound great vs vehicles but only about half the lists (2-3 of 5) i saw at my store so far have used them. Heat lance is great but only if you do deepstrike with an archon with webway portal for precision deepstrike to get half range shots and fry those vehicles. It's great but you have to throw one of your archons or similar out there in the first place. The rest of the choices don't seem too hot. I won't even get into shredders since they've just been known to suck. Dark lance is ok but if you move they snap shot. Splinter cannon is ok but if you move you shoot much less and your range is only 18" and it's usually done so much better with venoms which can move 12" and still shoot 2 splinter cannons at full BS and with 6 shots. They aren't the worst choices since they have range and will live beyond a turn if your enemy doesn't just wipe them out with 36" or above range firepower but it's still a gamble.

I'm also brought to another interesting idea. The normal base gun for scourge is assault 3, poisoned 4+ and 18". Not super hot for living very long but you can throw out 30 poisoned shots from these guys for 160 points (i could make the units 5 man if i wish of course) which isn't too bad considering the alternatives. Given the range of the guns i could deepstrike them in with a fair bit of breathing room for shooting when i get in. I may just use more venoms good range can be a factor to staying alive esp. when spammed but i may have to take troops or something with them which boosts the cost to at least 65 pts for the venom and 40 for the warrior squad (and there's a good chance i'll get at least twice as many shots with the scourge if all the dudes in both are shooting). Course then there's the issue of interceptor. I suppose it all depends.

Blasters are ok as a TAC unit, that can knock out tanks(decently), wound MC's/GC's, and ID stuff like Wulfen.
Heat Lances are either an expensive suicide unit with a WWP archon, or a gamble if run by themselves. I have had good luck with their scatters, but others may not. They tear apart tanks at close range, but suffer beyond 9 inches. They are decent against MC's and heavy infantry, but not gonna be ID important stuff.
Haywire is the more reliable hullpoint stripper we have. Be careful with them and they can kill a Land raider in 2 turns, 1 if you throw some lance from the rest of the army and take a hull point or 2 off.

I'm intending on using mine as anti-vehicle, with haywire. Like you say, the other options all have their drawbacks. If you don't tend to face vehicles, are Scourges the right unit for you? Could always get another squad of jetbikes...

As mentioned, Haywire is their best "specialist" choice, whereas Blasters are their best "TAC" choice.

I personally go with Haywire, since the rest of my army has plenty of Splinter weapons to take out infantry. I also see plenty of vehicles in my area. DE units don't really do "TAC" very well, often it is best to have units that are good at specific jobs and use them accordingly.

Having said that, it is nice to have those Blasters if you frequently go up against Tau, Nids or any Terminator heavy armies. Blasters are great at ID'ing Crisis Suits, wounding Riptides and other MCs and anything that relies on a 2+ armour

I find the best way to run them is with Haywire. The larger threat range means that after you pop a vehicle there’s a chance you might not actually die!

Deepstriking Heat Lances with an Archon will certainly work but that’s a 220+ point unit which is dead the following turn.

Poison just isn’t worth it over a plain old Venom. We have poison coming out our ass but anti-tank is harder to come by so Scourges shouldn’t be wasted on poison.
