Subject: The Eldar Trifecta?
|

Daring Dark Eldar Raider Rider

This is not a tactics discussion but it has elements of one.
So for fun and for theme, I'm looking at putting together an 1850 list with Harlequin's, Dark Eldar and Craftworld Eldar. I'd prefer the 3 to be equally represented i.e. 600pts each but I'm a realist so I'm willing to adjust.
I'd like to see 300-800pt Detachments/Formations for all 3.
Discussing only 1 of the 3 is fine as each have their own strengths and weaknesses.
What's the focus of them?(psychic,assualt, infantry,vehicle etc)
Which Warlord Trait works best from each?
Or just general ideas and concepts
How can they benefit the other 2 battle brothers?
Does it represent a theme?
Here's an example of all 3 I put together for theme and effectiveness.
The DE element brings in the support (very non-commital) more of an obsec focus while transporting the Harlequin Troupes as well. An unfortunate Archon with an even more unfortunate followers.
++ Dark Eldar: Codex(Combined Arms Detachment) (410pts) ++
+ HQ (125pts) +
Archon (100pts) [Shadow field]
Court of the Archon (25pts)
[Medusae]
+ Troops (120pts) +
Kabalite Warriors(40pts)
Kabalite Warriors
Kabalite Warriors
+ Fast Attack (165pts) +
Raider (55pts)
Raider
Raider
The CW element brings in the "young" zealous Farseer and fire power... yeah Eldar firepower! Bikes with firepower to add cover to the DE Raiders. Some really old Eldar in a WK that's seen some serious $%*# during the fall is always nice as well.
++ Eldar Craftworlds: Codex(Combined Arms Detachment) (668pts) ++
+ HQ (130pts) +
Farseer [Farseer Skyrunner, The Spirit Stone of Anath'lan (Remnant of Glory), Witchblade]
+ Troops (243pts) +
Windriders (81pts) [3x Windrider with Scatter laser]
Windriders [3x Windrider with Scatter laser]
Windriders [3x Windrider with Scatter laser]
+ Lord of War (295pts) +
Wraithknight [Two Heavy Wraithcannons]
The Funny element is the main element, besides the firepower^. Bikes to go with the CW bikes, the assualt element with the DE to drive home the joke. Shadowseer hanging out with the Archon and Farseer to keep things on an even keel.
++ Harlequins - Codex(Masque Detachment) (772pts) ++
+ Elites (100pts) +
Shadowseer [Mastery Level 2,The Mask of Secrets]
+ Troops (357pts) +
Troupe (119pts) [Harlequin's Caress x3]
Troupe [Harlequin's Caress x3]
Troupe [Harlequin's Caress x3]
+ Fast Attack (240pts) +
Skyweavers (120pts)
····Skyweaver [Zephyrglaive]
····Skyweaver [Zephyrglaive]
Skyweavers
····Skyweaver [Zephyrglaive]
····Skyweaver [Zephyrglaive]
+ Heavy Support (75pts) +
Voidweavers [Haywire cannon]
I'm not stuck on these and it's not only about the tactics. So please don't only discuss the tactics and/or why you should take 80% of 1 and 10% from the other 2.

I love doing Eldar unity lists. I prefer starting with a Covens formation as my basis (usually a Grotesquerie) and maximizing my Leadership dependent tactics.

My tactical series is a little out of date, but I'll be updating it once the FAQs get finalized.

I've been wanting to do that for awhile, such a good thread.
My only reason for not doing so yet, is that I'm trying to keep sort of a closer forces balance. I know I can be cheap as hell and take a DE allied Detachment for 100 pts but it feels more like an after thought than an army of its own.
I feel you should be able to have a good story for every single model in your army as to why they're there.

If you want just a fun all-Eldar list, maybe mix it up a bit?
The DE list could be 1 normal Kalabite unit, one Corsair-themed unit (if youre not doing actual Corsairs), and maybe a Wych cult instead of the 3rd Kalabite squad.
The CWE ljst should have a unit of Rangers. Probably only one Bike unit, and the third could be DA or a Guardian squad (probably the latter).
Not duplicating units too much might help theme. Maybe even drop the Harlies down to Falchus Jest, to allow more diverse Eldar units (like Corsairs, either DA or Guardians whichever yoh didnt do, ensure you have another Aspect, etc.).

In my experience, a truly trolly trip-dar unit is an Archon with Armor of Misery and WWP, a Shadowseer with Mask, and a unit of storm guardians with fusion guns (could also use Fire Dragons or Wraithguard, but I use the Storms as a cheap troop choice to unlock the CAD since I don't like scatterbikes.)
Show up, put half the opponent's army in a -4 to -2 leadership debuff bomb, psychic shriek the bejeezus out of something, fusion/haywire nade something else, and then let the jesters go to town with -6 leadership checks.
|
"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Yeah that'll make sense. My first list was geared a little more toward effectiveness while maintaining theme that's the reason for duplicates.
I really think there's many ways to do this with different set ups, which is awesome.
I was contemplating Corsairs in the list but I can't bring myself to do it for some reason. I probably need to read more of their fluff first lol. I've always been a big supporter of the Leadership tests lol. I think this would actually be around the top army in tournament if GW didnt get so excited about releasing Harlequins they forgot mostly everyone was immune Morale tests.
If that Warlord Trait that added a D6 to Morale tests wasn't "base to base" requirement... it'd be useful
