I've just started painting up a squad of scouts and having mainly completed the first two, while I think they're OK, for some reason they just don't 'pop' for me. I was hoping the all you Dakkanauts would give me a little insight into what exactly I'm failing to see in my scouts and how I could possibly improve them.
Please bear in mind that I do know they're missing squad markings, so that may account for part of my dissatisfaction.
Apologies for the potato quality as I used my iphone to get some quick snaps of them. However, any advice or critique would be much appreciated.

I think these are fantastic! If anything, I feel they may be a tad too clean and need some weathering up, not any "pop". Also, I take it these are Salamander Scouts. You can get a nice hit of popping color in the eyes if you go red+orange pupils.

Looks very clean and nice.
though i may of picked a different clothing color as it looks to be the same color as the flesh.
maybe a tan or a ligher grey or change the flesh to a more grey color. etherway.

@Desubot - I think that may be one of the problems - I picked black trousers as I wanted to offset the vibrancy of the green and I thought it made more sense in terms of camouflage. Considering the white pauldrons, I didn't want to go overboard with white trouser as you see on GW's examples. I wasn't too keen on a brown either, but in hindsight perhaps that would have been better... Thanks for the input in any case.
@Kaiserbudheim - Thanks! And, yeah they're Salamanders - the eyes are red, but the iPhone hasn't quite caught them sadly. I've always shied away from weathering, mainly due to inexperience and not wanting to ruin the few models I do get. However, it may be the glaring green that is putting me off. Thanks for your thoughts though.

There is always the option of doing actual camo, with grey/white and a splash of red. (for that tacticool look)

I think you should camo the black fatigues by just adding some grey irregular striping or patches. That will make them stand out as different than your flesh color, and if you stay with darker greys will remain as a foil for the brighter colors.

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage. |

@Desubot @ edwardmyst - Ooooh - I like the sound of camo. Due to the quality of the photo's, the highlights for the fatigues don't really come out. They're muted, but slightly more noticeable than the pics. However, camo may serve to give them some interest - thanks for the ideas!
@Elbows - Thanks (I think?) Just to help me decide where I'm going wrong, what exactly puts you off about the colours?
