I am in the midst of painting my Satyxis Raiders unfortunately since they are metal i need to varnish them (otherwise the paint will QUICKLY be chipped of)
I use army painters Anti shine (which i painted on) and as experience with almost every other varnish it more or less killed all the metal highlights.

My question is there a way to avoid this or at least minimize it or is it unavoidable?

Use metal varnish.
No I'm not being sarcastic. It's a thing, Vallejo make it.

You wouldn´t happen to have a link for a shop that sells the stuff in Europe and can ship it to Denmark??

From the description it almost sounds like a color in of itself.
Is that what it is or is it a clear varnish just like the other varnishes out there like Satin, matt and gloss varnish?

Vallejo's Metal Varnish is just a gloss varnish, they released it as part of their "Metal Color" line with the idea of airbrushing it over the top of Metal Color paints which are also airbrushed and are very delicate.

If you have GW's ardcoat or any other gloss varnish, that'll work fine as well.

Apply the varnish sparingly to avoid making the metal look "wet" rather than "shiny". For an intermediate look, you can use a satin varnish rather than a gloss, or mix a bit of satin in to your gloss. Satin and matte varnishes are basically just gloss varnishes with a white powdery talc-like substance added in to dull it down, so you can mix matte and gloss to create satin or mix satin and gloss to create something shiny but not glass-like.

Try leaving off the topmost highlights on your metals until after you do the varnish.

You can somewhat "drybrush" the gloss varnish on to make it look like the edges are burnished but the crevices are dull. Though rather than "dry" I tend to do it wet, so thin the varnish down, wipe most of it off and then just brush over the metal areas, focusing on the raised surfaces.

If you have too much varnish on your brush it tends to settle in the crevices, which is what makes it look wet rather than shiny.

It is hell on your brushes though, so use an old crappy one.

I ususally use satin varnish which is the in between of matt and gloss.

Otherwise if you want to get nuts

gloss varnish the whole thing

vallejo liquid mask the parts you want shiny still

then matt varnish.

and remove the mask.
