GW used to have an inexpensive 4'x6' rolled turf mat.
What does everyone use at home these day?

I am building a table but what about for home quick pickup games that won't break beggar the realm?

My first one was a fake grass mat, cost me like 10 dollar at some random mall.

Right now I use deepcut studios mats (40ish dollar) and gamemat.eu mats. Around 70 dollar depending on size.

Deepcut Studios, however from what I understand I lucked out when they were shipping cheaper to the U.S.

But, regardless...a couple of quality neoprene mats 100%.

www.gamemat.eu is my goto. I have two mats from them and I'm planning on getting more. I have Forges of Mars and Forgotten Realm mats, both are extremely high quality with great images and come with a carrying case. They are -21% off for Americans since they exclude VAT for us.

Not mats but a set of boards.

3 boards, each 2'x6'. Double sided. 2 surfaces have green flock; 2 sand; 2 coal/urban/grey. 2 boards sit comfortably side by side on 2 old teachers desks I liberated from the skip.

I use frontline gaming mats and highly recommend them. I have two of them, a 4x4 for warmachine and a 4x6 for warhammer. They are made of a mouse pad like material and are very durable, easy to store, and look excellent. A friend of mine has the GW plastic table kit that are in 2x2 sections. Those are also nice since they add some elevation to the terrain. The downside is the plastic is slick and models slide around more easily, they need to be painted and will need frequent touch-ups, they require more storage space, and worst of all they are very expensive.

If the frontline gaming mats are out of your price range, wait for cyber Monday deals, then just find an inexpensive green or gray cloth material.

Do I have something in my teeth?

Frontline Gaming mats for X-Wing and 40k at my LGS and friend's place, but my dining room table is 3.5x6.5, just wrong enough to make a mat worthless so that is a cushioned tablecloth and flock cover on the rare occasion I wanted to go fancy. Usually, just the cushioned tablecloth.
