Subject: Necromunda stand-ins question from a total newb

Hey guys, first post here. Complete newb.
Been playing RPG's forever but never have time anymore with school and parenting so I decided to pick up wargaming so I can paint when I'm bored at least. I got some 40k stuff (Genestealers) because I know that's what I will be mainly playing with the local scene as it is, but what has really interested me in older stuff, mainly Necromunda and Rogue Trader. Got a couple buddies that were willing to dive in with me so I am going for it.
Problem is Necromunda gangs are crazy expensive. Any advice on stand ins? Or are there third party companies that produce cheaper similar models? I like several of the factions so I'm not picky, but don't know what route to go outside of just paying $100+ for a basic box of out of print GW minis that were meant for Necromunda.
Wondering about the same thing for Squats as well, for the Rogue Trader army I wanted to build. I got a few already, but it's realllll tricky finding reasonably priced Squats.
Thanks guys

Buy a unit of Genestealer Cultists, they would make great Delaques, by not using any of the monstrous heads or hands.

Hey thanks for the replies. That link looks perfect, lots of options there. Awesome.
Also I will check out the Genestealer cultists, I have a bunch of Genestealers anyway for 40k so they'd work either way.
Thanks!

Chaos Cultists make for good stand-ins too. The set from Dark Vengeance are practically a perfect gang, though you'd probably want to convert some juvies.

Lots of metal options out there too, Easy Riding Miniatures has some cool options, so does Cooplestone Castings (and they'll be 20% off this week).
Frostgrave is about to put out some sci-fi weapons for their cultist which should be useful too.
If you want to go with plastics you can more or less do this, the real challenge will be scraping up enough guns and other high tech bits if you're new to modeling.
Goliath-Chaos Marauders, Khorne dudes
Orlock-Catachans
Escher-Dark Elf/Eldar Witches with head swaps
Cawdor-Chaos Cultists, Frostgrave Cultists, Brettonian Men at Arms
Delaque-Genestealer Cultists, High Elf archers with arm and head swaps
Van Saar-Nothing comes to mind right away... Void Junkers maybe?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ah got it!
Van Saar-Eldar guardians with head swaps
None will be perfect of course but it's a direction to consider.

If you don't mind the asthetic too much anything goes miniature-wise. There's nothing stopping you finding minis you like and saying, "these kinda Yakuza lookin' awesome minis if found will be my gang and even though they're not all bald and only two of them have big coats I'm going to run them with Delaque rules." Cause really its just a skill set you're picking game-wise and the minis can be whatever makes sense to you.
They don't have to modeled after the original gang concepts.

Heresy makes great Delaque gangers, and have a 20% off.
Here is the complete gang deal, but also available seperately.

Also, worth mentioning...you don't need to mimic any of the gang's aesthetics.
Each gang has slightly different rules which determine how they'll develop (they choose from different skill trees etc.) but you can make a gang look however you want. You simply have to inform your opponents/buddies that "hey I'm using the Van Saar advancement tree" etc.
The only recommendation is to make sure the figures are as WYSIWYG as possible (so they match the equipment you're using). As long as they're the right scale and a guy with a pistol has a pistol, the models are borderline irrelevant. There are heaps and heaps of post-apocalypse style figures out there which are brilliant for Necromunda.
If you like tech stuff like Van Saar - look at Infinity models (though they're quite slight when scaled with GW figures). You can always pretend to play a lower house and simply use the rules you want (or perhaps your lower house has been hired out by one of the larger Necromunda houses).
Heck, your game doesn't even have to exist in the Necromundan hive - there are hives on thousands and thousands of Imperial worlds which probably have a similar hierarchy/design/situation etc. I recently purchased the plastic Chaos Cultists from the Dark Vengeance box and will modify them up a bit as Cawdor-style gangers. They share most of the same weapons - I picked up some Imperial Guard plastic bits and weapons to modify them, and I think you get 20 figures if you buy them off eBay. Easy way to start a gang.

Actually, it's one of the cheapest games out there. Rules are available for free download, you can use nearly any models and the model count is generally quite low (comparatively speaking). Yes, some of us go overboard and have 50+ model collections of the original gangs, but ignore us nutcases. Lots of good models out there for cheap. Hell, just go to the swap shop, pick up 20 or so IG of some sort, cut and chop and there you go.
And IMO, GWs best game. Just hope they don't screw it up when they re-release it sometime in the next year or two...

Check out Yaktribe as others have mentioned, fantastic resource.
Quick alternative gangers ideas.
Orlocks - Catachans IG work well
Cawdor - Chaos Cultists
Escher - Difficult with so few female models to use.
Delaque - Genestealer Cultists or Heresy minis.
Goliath - Chaos thugs/mercs can work mixed with ig cultist weapons.
Van Saar - Eldar guardians with a head swap using IG
Ratskins - No idea
Skavvies - Chaos armies, maybe use a kroxigor or similar for the scaly, plague zombies easy enough.
Redemptionists - More chaos cultists, just find lots of flame weapons.
Spyrers - Space Marine (orrus), Eldar Banshee (jakara), Swwoping Hawk (yeld) & somethign for Malecodon with some converting could work.
Hired guns
Wyrds - take your pick of psykers
Scum - should be easy enought to convert a couple
Bounty Hunter - tricky because of all the weapons they carry, I converted an old Confrontation Brat model.
Pit Slave - Servitor conversion
