Hey there, I'm a returning player back to 40k having not played in the last 3 or so years, and I've decided to play adeptus mechanicus, I've already picked up the starter box and an extra set of rangers or vanguards, this is the list I put together, not really knowing whats good or not. Any feedback would be very much appreciated as I really am out of my depth here! (Also I apologise if this is a bad format)

Skitarii Maniple

- 10 Skitarii Vanguards: Omnispex, Arc Rifle 125
- 10 Skitarii Vanguards: Onnispex, Arc Rifle 125

- 2 Onager Dunecrawlers: Icarus Arrays 250

Cult Mech Allied Detachment

- Dominus - 105

- 3 Kataphron Destroyers: Cognis Flamers and Heavy Grav Cannons 180
- 3 Kataphron Destroyers: Cognis Flamers and Heavy Grav Cannons 180

In total the list comes out at 965, but I also don't really know what items I should put on the dominus so help with that would also be appreciated

If you run 10 man troop squads you're better off specialising them with 3 special weapons.

At the minute to use your arc rifles against vehicles you'd waste the 9 vanguard shooting a huge amount of anti infantry firepower. If you use the radium carbines against infantry your arc rifle is doing very little.
Even if you get 2 hits with the arc you'll probably only get a couple of glancing hits. if you have 3 rifles in the same squad you normally kill the vehicle you shoot at.

I'd suggest putting 3 arc rifles in one squad and having the other base, probably without the omnispex to be honest. If you.

I can't speak for your local meta but even at 2000 points i rarely use more than one icarus array onager. At 1000pts i'd think you won't get many flyers at all. putting 250pts into anti air is a serious waste.

Neutron lasers are amazing guns and the base eradication beamer is a very versatile gun. if you have the points i always give onagers the heavy stubber, it does a surprising amount.

The admech force is good, i wouldn't normally run 2 units of grav, i personally lean towards breachers to get my arc because of the much longer range, depending on what armies you play grav will either be great against marines especially terminator heavy forces or it can be terrible (think hordes where you normally only wound on 6's with grav).

As your list stands if you just dropped an omnispex you could also add a basic skitarii ironstrider dragoon for 45 points which would be a great addition.

Alternately drop both omnispex's and put 55 points to another man squad of vanguard.

If you add the dragoon, switch to 3 arcs in one unit and change an onagers armament you'd go from an okay list to a powerful one.

Grey Knights - 3500pts
SKitarii - 4000pts
Ad mech - 2000pts
Imperial Knights - 1000pts
Black Templars - 3200pts
Genestealer cults - 1750

Thanks for the reply!

I should mention at the moment I will be playing in a group of 5-6 people who are mostly all getting back into the hobby - my most experienced friend will be playing eldar, and so far all I know is that 1 friend will be playing grey knights and one other is looking at deathwatch

With the 3 special weapons my only problem is I had a look and each box only comes with 1 of each??

With the Icarus arrays should I just drop both of them and replace with heavy stubber?

Additionally what would be the best kit for the dominus?

It'll have to be a general list to tackle everything from grey knights to eldar but i'd stand by most of the changes i suggested.

I hadn't thought about the annoying one of each weapon per box thing, it is annoying to start. Even with your original list if there was one thing i would say is the most important change it would be putting both arcs in one unit. The answer is probably just run with 2 special weapons until you get another box!

At this points level i'd recommend taking 2 individual onagers instead of a unit. It totally depends how many flyers you come across if you should take one with the icarus array nut i'd suggest between the kataphrons and arc unit you have viable options to deal with the maximum one or two flyers you'll see at 1000,

Therefore i'd personally have one onager with the neutron laser upgrade and the extra heavy stubber to sit backfield and shoot.
The other one i'd leave with the stock eradication ray and just pay for the stubber and if you're clever you can get it at the right range to deal with most things.

As far as the dominus goes the eradication ray is nice but a bit pricey at 15pts. I actually find the best use is to attach him to an important unit (grav kataphron) and park him at the front as he can tank a lot of wounds and in a smaller game make the kataphrons near invincible.

Grey Knights - 3500pts
SKitarii - 4000pts
Ad mech - 2000pts
Imperial Knights - 1000pts
Black Templars - 3200pts
Genestealer cults - 1750

Drop one dunecrawler. Add Taser Dragoons.

Dominus is your warlord and tank so probably just needs Conversion field or sometimes stasis field.
