I live to the southwest of Chicago, and am wondering if anyone else here on these lovely forums happens to live nearby. I'm itching to run a good campaign of 40k, but no one at my local GW is really that interested.

How southwest? As I explain about a half dozen threads down, I currently live to the north, but work in, and will be moving to the Schaumburg area.

We have a reasonably active Gentlemen's league running in the West burbs, and some of the participants are in the Orland area.

We are always looking for more players!

We mostly play in folks homes (No objections to Draxtar/Grognard/Games Plus either).

I'm running the Gentleman's at Adepticon, and will be running more narrative campaigns/tournaments starting late Q1 next year, all to be hosted at BYOB venues.

The one thing we don't play by, is standard ITC WAAC rules, so I'll preface that!

JNA how far are you from Harwood Heights? Theres a new store called Games Wholesale that opened not to long ago. Awesome prices and I know the owner is looking to get some 40k and AoS action going!

About an hour away. I live in Frankfort.

I'm on the North side, in Lake County.

I've driven down to play 40k at Games Plus in Mt Prospect a few times, but that's an hour drive each way, and the group there only plays 40k on Thursday nights.

There are a few posters here that are much closer to you.

I'd like to get some more games in, but this time of year is really busy for me.

Ah gotcha... ya honestly probably wouldn't be worth it, they dont have the biggest gaming area.

Grognard Games just opened up in Roselle which would save about 20 min vs driving up to Games Plus. Joliet has Wandering Dragon, although I'm not sure if there's a regular 40k group.

Leisure Hours and Gaming Goat both have locations in Joliet but I don't know what type of miniature gaming they might have (if any).

I haven't even heard of *any* 40k gaming at Wandering Dragon, and figured they're just tabletop rpg's, board games, and card games. Would be cool to have another place to stop in if they do, though.

Draxtar Games in Batavia is a really good place to play, it looks like it might be close to the same time frame to get to for you as Grognard (which I've never been to so can't compare). But Draxtar has 6 12'-long tables and a 7th table that I think is shorter (all specifically for tabletop games, as the card gaming crowd has their own half of the store), along with gobs of terrain and a good amount of space in the store. They're running a campaign right now through the end of the year, that might be a good way to meet people that play there (as I never see pick-up games there, the crowd seems to usually schedule their games).

Do these guys have a nice selection or aos and 40k? do they sell at GW retail or cheaper?

Stuff discounted below MSRP tends to be fairly limited around here, retail space in the Chicago area is expensive as hell and it takes a lot of effort to keep the doors open so they aren't going to be offering deep discounts.

Games Plus has a rewards program that gives you a $10 credit for each $100 you've purchased so it's effectively 10% off but it's a little wonky as the discount will usually apply on future purchases vs the one you want to make immediately. They have tables but availability can be an issue as there's dedicated game nights for lots of non-40k stuff and while the store stocks a lot of stuff it's a bit of a dump.

Supposedly Tryton Games in Lombard offers 20%, but I haven't been there in person. No idea what type of gaming space they have as my impression is that they are primarily focused on ccgs.

Grognard doesn't offer discounts but they have a lot of nice gaming space which is something that tends to be lacking in the area.

Draxtar is also in the same category.

Most other stores tend to be very limited on stable space.

Are there any sort of 40k get-togethers in the Lake Country area? Since I'm coming down from Wadsworth for gaming, I know the pain, and I've always been a much more of a 'play at home and take it easy' kind of gamer.

Another question - do any of the local FLGS hold any sort of bazaar or flea market events?

I'm trying to help a friend sell off his ork collection and have already gotten rid of all the easy to sell stuff on ebay, but now has the assorted bits, models, and random parts that do well at that kind of thing.

I just moved back to Lake County after having been away for 5 years and I'm struggling to find a scene. A friend of mine and I used to play at Unique Gifts and Games in Grayslake but he has since quit the hobby and they are almost entirely focused on Warmahordes now.

Bookwrack, I know that Games Plus has an awesome auction two times a year. I'm not sure if they do bits etc, but I'm sure you could ask.

They still have these. I've never been free to attend, sadly.

UGG does sell 40k stuff, but i've never seen people in there playing. It's the closest to me, and I'd like to play there sometime.

If you're interested in a game, let me know. I can call and see about getting a table reserved one night. They have random tournaments on Saturdays, like X-Wing or Some Board Game and so on. Sign up for their newsletter.

Not that I am aware. I'd be up for playing, starting in January. December is just too busy for me. Wadsworth is only a 25 minute drive down, which isn't so bad.

I would be down for helping setup a game day for dakka locals at one of the Lake County game stores starting in January. I can bring a battlemat and some GW terrain as well. I think that would be a lot of fun. Gonna throw out some friend requests on here and maybe we can get something going after the holidays!

I'd be down with that. Even if it's just a few one on one games.

Hello new friend!

I'm up for meeting up for a game. I'm available sporadically through the holidays, so if anyone wants to set up a game, give me a ping. I've got a shedload of terrain, and am slowly building up my collection of RoB tiles.

I stopped in at Unique Gifts, and it's a decent enough store, but didn't seem a whole lot going on, 40K wise. Would be a decent enough place to game though. I also go to the Red Top Plaza GW from time to time, and the people there, along with the manager, are all pretty decent folk.

Man, and I thought that Waukegan was a long way. Well, if we ever want to have a game at Starved Rock... XD

Now that the holidays are well over, I've got lots of free time to game. Anyone in the north through west Chicago areas up for a game?
