So one thing i think going under the radar a bit with the traitors book is that Iron Warriors in their ducurion can take 3 fortifications!

I had a quick read over stronghold assault again and am thinking there must be some sweet combos in here, especially owing to the re-rolls for blasts firing, fearless in fortifications etc.

Anyone had and neat ideas?

Like you can have 3 aegis lines, that'll basically go across the board.

I made a silly suggestion on another forum about taking 3 vortex missile strongholds XD

6 vengance weapon batteries? 450 pts, 120 s5 shots a turn or maybe 12 twin-linked skyfire lascannon shots with intercepter

3 void sheid generators with a unit of havocs or obilts on, gains them a bit of LoS and the obvious protection

I've had a bunch of CSM models hanging out, sort of earmarked for Khorne Daemonkin, but I may just use them as counts-as CSM and try all the Traitor options on for size. Iron Warriors would benefit most from the Vengeance Battle Cannons, although you could make a case for Promethium Relay Pipes or Haemotrope Reactors. Of course Aegis is always good too. I think the Fortifications slot is really interesting, myself. The fact that you can also buy obstacles and such with some of the buildings means you can really layer your defenses, which is really cool.

But won't this be particulary boring ?
Always playing defensively, using the same fortifications ?

You can relatively cheap Battle Cannons to make use of that benefit. They aren't the greatest weapons but cheap enough that it won't matter.

It doesn't have to be. You can situate your Obliterators as tank hunters/Torrent Heavy Flamers/Twin Heavy Flamers to act as a hard point and sit objectives, and use your CSM units to take ground and take the fight to the enemy. Terminators got pretty good in some of these formations, too.

Not suggesting Tau style gunline or anything, just you really can shore up your defenses to male your Obliterators or Havocs very hard to dislodge. Also, Obliterators are pretty amazing with either the Relay or the Haemotrope Reactors.

I thought the best Iron Warriors was a big fortress and Geomancy (Sorcerers cabal?) and then drive it around the board?

Man, what a stupid, stupid power... doing donuts in a freaking Fortification is really dumb... too bad because it's cool thematically, just the implementation makes it overpowered and derpy.

Let me see. The void relay network allows 1-3 promethium pipes and 1-3 VSGs. If you spent the points on the tax promethium pipes, you can potentially have up to 900 points of void shields (100 ppm, 3 in each network.) Anyway, while you can guarantee enough shields to keep your stuff safe on the first few turns, and while 900 pts would grant you 27 things blocked minimum, in the end it's just overkill. Moving on, you can take multiple vengeance weapon batteries, which aren't terrible at shooting w/ the battle cannon and can be anti-air with the lascannon, and are immune to S7 and below. The best pick will depend on what else iron warriors can do though.
Now I'm thinking about how cheap it would be to make an Iron Warriors fortification-themed army with some easy scratchbuilt terrain. Lazy maybe, and not very effective, but maybe fun and easy to play.

Or you could do that.

40k drinking game: take a shot everytime a book references Skitarii using transports.

You can't move purchased terrain with the Geomancy power
