Hey guys, looking at grabbing some Guard for a fun side army and as a neat little ally. What's good that I should look at grabbing? Currently in my DA army, I have:

-Librarian
-Interrogator Chaplain
-Scouts
-Tacs in Drop Pods
-Dreadnought (normal loadout, one with TL Autocannons)
-Deathwing Knights
-Terminators
-Bikers with Grav and Melta
-Land Raiders
-Land Speeders
-Devastators with Missile Launchers
-Tri-Las Razorback
-Aegis Line

Currently, I'm thinking a fat blob of 40 Guardsmen with some Heavy Weapons Autocannons behind an Aegis Line, with a Librarian for Divination, basically a big backfield holder. The rest of the army would be Podding in a bunch of Tac marines for Grav/objective holding and maybe some Termies or Bikes for harassment.

Alternatively, I'm also looking at the Militarum Tempestus Start Collecting Box for a lot of AP3 Deepstrike goodness.

Use the IG to fill in the gaps that you don't already have filled with DA.

If you're just looking for a good backfield holder:
-Blobs of guardsmen are a good choice but MUST be accompanied by an IC to increase their LD or give them fearless/stubborn or you will be sorely disappointed with them. Word of caution, unless you're going to give them TL using orders, don't waste your time giving them special weapons as it is a waste with BS3. Don't let the blob become a points sink and don't bother joining a librarian to them since it's more reliable to give them orders from a CCS.
-Wyverns are great because your DA army has no long range artillery for killing infantry, and let's face it, wyverns are amazing. Park these babies in the back and watch them delete enemy infantry off the board every turn. I use these all the time and I think there was only 1 time they didn't kill their points worth of enemies.

If you want to fill a few gaps in the DA army:
-Vendettas are excellent choices because I see that your DA army has no fliers. They are a bit expensive, however, vendettas are very effective against pretty much everything except infantry that are MEQ or cheaper. You'll find yourself playing Flight of the Valkyries when one of these comes in and make mincemeat of enemy flyers and FMC's with the 3 TL LC's on it.
-Stormswords and Hellhammers are nice If you want to try going closer to half your army being invested in IG (you'll need an IG CAD to bring one). Only reasons I'm even suggesting one is because they look friggin' cool, will soak up lots of enemy attention, and I noticed your current DA army has no LoW.

The only thing you really need from AM is the ever-amazing Wyvern. I'm pretty sure they have an artillery formation from the whole Tau campaign, so just pick stuff from there. After that, you already got vehicles and MC's covered from Ravenwing.

If you're for some reason concerned about AA, you shouldn't be. You'll be pulling enough Grav shots to not worry about it.

I'm still a bit confused on how orders work. So if I put say a Priest or Commissar in there, the blob could get orders, but not if I put a non-IG IC?

Yep, these are absolutely on my list. Faced them a couple times and they're nasty.

Another of my absolutely must haves. I had a Jetfighter, but, ehhhhh.
