Good day fellow dakka members,

I am going to a tourney in about 5 weeks.
The tourney is a 1v1 tourney, mostly following itc rules with minor exceptions.
i am allowed to take 4 formations/detachments

I would like to see your opinions on my list and maybe get some suggestions.
I am not aiming for the top since this will be my second tournament. But i am aiming to
gain some good experience and get a better feel for competitive play.

I am still unsure of the Chapter tactics. Either Ultramarines or Imperial Fists.
My list will be a drop pod list. I am aware that alpha striking has its survivability problems if the dice gods are against me.

I am playing
Skyhammer annihalation
1st company veterans
CAD

5 Pods turn 1
4 Pods turn 2+

Skyhammer annihalation

2 5 man assault squads. I do not expect to do much with them so no upgrades of any kind
1 Dev squad with 4 Multi Melta's. Anti Vehicle
1 Dev Squad with 4 Grav Canons and grav amps. Anti heavy infantry or vehicle if needs be.
I intend to use the sergeants signum as much as possible so no weapon upgrade on him.
Both come in a pod with a locator beacon

1st Company Vets
All 5 man squads

2x Sternguard vets without upgrades in a pod with locator beacon
1x Sternguard vets with 2 heavy flamers for killing scouts/cover troops etc before they become a problem
1x Sternguard with 2 Melta guns and 3 combi melta's. Turn 2 pod if the Dev MM squad wasn't able to finish the job

CAD

HQ
Lvl 2 Libby, sword, bolt pistol, Shield Eternal chapter relic, Auspex

FATT
Drop pod

TROOPS
2x Tactical Squad, no upgrades of any kind. Just a tax and deployment line tarpit/security or maybe to cap and hold an obj.

H-SUPP
Centurion Devastators, omniscope, 3x missles, 3x Grav Canons. Anti heavy infantry or vehicle if needs be

I am Thinking of putting the Libby with either a Skyhammer pod or the Centurions depending on what my enemy fields. I Gave him the shield eternal to safeguard his unit against accursed Eldar psychic and to bring up the meager survivability of his unit and the libby himself.
I gave the Libby an auspex to deal with any coversaves his unit might have to deal with. In combination with the CenDevs omniscope this might bring down the enemies survivability somewhat.
I will also try to get invis or shrouding on the telepathy table to better safeguard his unit.

This list is probably not perfect, but this is only my second attempt at this.

If your using sky hammer annihilation than you may want to think about using upgrades for your assault marines I was in a doubles game where my ally had those massive chain swords
Each of the squads blew up a land raider cause of those things plus adding a melts bomb to the mix and they can be very scary plus frees your DEVs to attack less armored vehicles review the rules for the giant chain swords also cause I think it's similar to melta but that special "ignores melta" most vehicles have doesn't block those.

This is just my opinion, but I have a ton of experience running 1st company "Sternguard Drop vets" and I can tell you paying for anything beyond combi-weapons on them is a waste of your points. They WILL die the turn they come into play after they shoot.

Instead you might consider running them with Combi-grva/melta. You want flexibility here, and they are built for those sweet, sweet hellfire shots. Denying them the ability to use their specialist ammo makes them stupidly over expensive tactical marines with an extra CC attack. Not valuable.

IF Chapter tactics will benefit you a lot more here if you make this change. Otherwise, I'd stay with Ultrabros to take full effect of the doctrines.

Always try to think about Sternguard as a scary spiked hammer. You only get to swing the thing once, but if you strike true, your opponent weeps softly in the background.
