DECURION

Relcamation Legion - Core

Overlord, Phlactery, Veil of Darkness Warscythe 140 pts (warlord)
10 x Warriors
10 x Warriors
5 x Immortals
3 x Tomb Blades, shieldvanes, nebscopes, particle beamer
Destroyer Cult - Auxiliary
Destroyer Lord, solar staff, resurrection orb
3 x Destroyers
3 x Destroyers
3 x Destroyers
1 x Heavy Destroyer
Judicator Battalion - Auxiliary
10 x Triarch Praetorians, Rod of Covenant
5 x Triarch Praetorians, Rod of Covenant
Triarch Stalker, twin-linked heavy gauss cannon
Deathmarks - Auxiliary
10 Deathmarks
1848 pts

With this list I am attempting to have a relatively nasty competitive list whilst still fielding the units that I have in my collection that I like the most, namely Deathmarks and Praetorians. The destroyers follow the relatively unoriginal plan of a phalanx round the stalker giving them the old 2+ rerollable to hit and reroll all wounds/AP, whilst the stalker with its twin linked hefty gauss canon will also be rerolling everything with Target Designated. The Olord and Dlord go in big Praetorian squad for a hammer unit, whilst smaller Praets squad is backline harrasment unit going after scouts/cultists/etc. I'm hoping that the list has a few things that I think are needed for relatively competitive lists these days:

Speed - tomb blades, Praets, destroyers, veil of darkeness
Staying power - general decurion buff
Hard hitting - destroyers, deathmarks. Praetorians on the charge

what do you think?

I'm actually thinking about fielding a very similar list myself in a january ITC event, the only minor quibble is the lack of a phase shifter on the O-Lord, he is going to get challenged and it will be rough time for him without an invul. Other than that the Stalker will stick out like a sore thumb, but not much to be done, luckily it's cheap, and it's survival is not clutch. That deep striking gunline is going to be fun though, 10 str 5 AP 2 shots plus 3 str 5 ap 3 shots with blind will ruin someone's day if you can stick your landing. Then solar staff, and charge on your next turn, it's going to be a pretty sight if you can pull it off.

Hope you don't mind If I post mine since they are very similar and we can compare notes, Not quite sure on the netiquette, I'll happily edit it out if it's a problem:

I know I'm going to be going up against a wraith knight, and Heavy destroyers do good work on that front, so I grabbed three of them. If I can hang out by the stalker before it gets gibbed I'll be hitting on a 2+ with preferred enemy everyone so rerolling ones, wounding on threes rerolling failed wounds, I think I can get a fair chunk of him on my first shooting phase which will make him much more cautious with it. Also be nice to chunk some riptides, not that the Tau in my meta are too worrisome.

Interesting response - a list for a list!

As regards to your feedback on mine - the Olord not having a phase shifter doesn't really worry me. If he's likely to face a challenge that he can't win, then I'll accept the challenge with the Dlord instead, as he's less essential and after the initial volley of shooting and one big charge where he gives the Praets preferred enemy I'm not bothered about him really as long as I've utilised his solar staff. It's very unlikely for the Olord to face an opponent that can kill him outright, the resorb rerolls on a 4+ make it unlikely he'll get wounded much, and even if he's wounded after a challenge with Phlactery he can heal himself, he can hide in the middle of the praets squad for opponent's shooting phase. Phlactery is cheaper than phase shifters too, for better effect IMO.

Like you say the stalker does stick out. The target designated on the Praetorians shooting combined with a volley from the Deathmarks should ensure I take out wraithknights in one go (should ensure never seems to mean WILL take out, sadly!) and obviously the stalker is a boon to the Destroyer cult too, but not essential. I tend to find that people that go after my stalker for first blood have just condemned a more important unit in their army to death by trying to take it out (re podding marines, skyhammer etc) and that's worth it too, the perceived drawing in for first blood attempts.

Also reckon I might split my Deathmarks into two squads of 5 instead of 1x10.

Your list Grimgold is certainly similar and looks pretty solid. I like the seperate particle beamer and gauss tomb blades - I only have the one squad of three. Are your Dlord and Olord going with a Praets squad? Your quite heavy with thephase shifters on both the characters, not sure the Dlord really needs or warrants one here. The reason I ask about them going with Praetorians is that while certainly I have went a bit crazy with a squad of 10, not sure your characters plus a squad of 5 are going to do quite as much damage as you'll need them to on the charge.

Also, the heavy destroyers are great in a cult, but a squad of 3 is a big investment when you already have extermination protocols on the rest of the Dcult for taking out vehicles and MC's. You may be surprised at how long it'll take your heavies to stop the wraithknight, unless you go balls to the wall with the judicator battalion's shooting combined, which wont leave you much else to be shooting that turn.

Personally, I'd drop one or two of your heavies and the Dlord's phase shifter to take a squad of 7 or 8 Praets with your HQ guys - it'll be worth it for the extra punch on the charge, as whilst good shooting is nice a stronger charge with preffered enemy Ap2 S5 attacks is more decisive.

But even despite all that - still looks great. If yours is for ITC rules (I mostly play at ETC rules events) then the bikes will be great for wracking the maelstrom scores.

Toying around with the list, why not give it the option for a null deploy, Both destroyers and praetorians can deep strike, add in a flyer for air superiority (like a night scythe), and you have two thirds of your army coming in on turn 2 on a 2+. Given that null deploy generally favors potent short ranged combat, it seems like a pretty good match.

It wouldn't be for every fight, but it would certainly have it's uses, for instance use it to take on eldar cheese armies like jetbike or spider spam. Just switch the Ghost Ark for a night scythe and drop the resurrection orb, and bam you got it.

@Grimlord.

Ummmmmmmmm Null deploy with Necrons?? you would auto lose unless your opponent had a drop pod.

Either of you thought about putting the D-Lord in the Deathmarks for deep strike then get him out killing stuff if you give him void reaper and phase shifter.
