Subject: [Warpath Firefight] Army List Translation Experiment
My Warpath kickstarter arrived and I've been reading up on it, a little. I kinda had enough of the theory without getting any real examples and so started working on army lists.
However, I decided that I'll do a little tweak on the concept. What I've done is bugged a bunch of my friends who still play 40k and asked them to give me some idea of their typical army lists and I've been testing to see what I can make out of them for Warpath. This should have 2 benefits. (1) I get to start reading things and putting the game into some sort of framework of understanding (EG, this is anti tank, that is anti infantry). And (2) Some of my more open minded mates might want to try out Warpath if I can successfully convince them that they don't need to change armies. Or, at least, only minimally change them.
The first few armies are kind of inspired by one of my friends who has been playing small 750 point each team games of 40k in a group with others to relearn the game after a decade or so away from it.
It's a smaller version of my old Imperial Guard army from 5th edition 40k. An infantry platoon, a Flamer command squad in a Chimera, a Leman Russ and a Officer leading a Lascannon squad.
Army Four
Enforcers x4 + Missile Launcher
Lieutenant x1
Enforcers x5
Enforcer+ x1
Forward Observer + Energy Gauntlet
Jetbikes x2
Jetbike+ x1
Peacekeepers x5 + Burst Laser
Captain - Energy Gauntlet, Laser Pistol
Strider - Heavy Burst Laser
Spoiler:
It's the Dark Vengeance set Dark Angels plus a Dreadnought!
So, I've got a larger 40k list in and it's proved to be a real struggle to find something equivalent. In any case, here goes.
It's a 1750 Tau army, made up of 2 Riptides (The Gunships), 3 squads of 5 firewarriors (the cyphers), 2 missile Broadsides (the Pulse Bombard Weapon Drones), another 6 crisis suits (the other weapon drones), a Piranha (the Sky Razor), 4 gun drones (Black Talons) and a Tau Commander. There were some other assorted drones and drone turrets too, but they didn't quite fit in. Basically, the main thing was the Overseer having to replace the Tau Commander... Hopefully someone would have an Etherael, which would fit in. I figure most tau players have one, that they've never ever used. As a sidenote, 2 Riptides in a list that's not even 2000 points, nevermind 3000, is a great reminder of why I dropped 40k in the first place.
The main issue I think with the translation of going from 40k to Warpath with peoples army lists is the lack of tanks in Warpath. The only faction that are really focused around tanks are the Forge Fathers. Even the GCPS only have a single tank (The Lancer) and a single ground APC, (the Mule, which is closer to the Taurox than the Chimera). Interestingly, if I were to do my Blood Ravens army, I'd probably be better off going for Forge Fathers instead of Enforcers as a result of this.

Oddly enough, GCPS Hornet Dropships are classified as Tanks! This is because flyers can only transport anti-grav troops, which GCPS troops are not. So the Hornet is an anti-grav Transport rather than a flyer. I guess it's classified as a tank because a dropship is supposed to be super tough?
Yeah, it took me a while to clock that. - I only noticed it after reading the flyer rules and going, "hey, that means that Plague dropships can't possibly work as they won't have any anti grav units..."
Maybe they're supposed to fly quite low to the ground as well, so are effectively skimmers, in 40k terms?

Pretty much skimmers. They don't get to do strafing runs and aren't immune to assault like Flyers are, but Anti-Grav lets them jump over stuff on the table.
It's very much a transport helicopter. It might have guns, but it's not a dogfighter, more like close air support. The Chira is similar.
The Accuser is the only real flyer transport, but Enforcers are Anti-Grav troops so they can deploy from them.
I will say that those minimum units of Recruits won't last too long. Had some success with a large group of 16 of them though clogging up the middle of a board. Keep them in range of a General for the Protection buff so they don't get grounded and the only way your opponent can remove them is by getting rid of each and every one of them :u
I'm not too sold on heavy weapons personally on GCPS marine squads. 1 or 2 4+ dice hasn't felt like a great trade off for lack of maneuverability so far in the three games i'v used them, but YMMV. I'v been meaning to try a proper Heavy Weapon squad some time though as i'v found it difficult to get a lot of high AP weapons in otherwise.
Have you tried the Mortars out yet?

I've yet to play the game yet, I was only really able to grab the rulebooks and put them into my suitcase.
I'm sure the minimum recruit unit won't do much, but then again, neither does a minimum unit of chaos close combat cultists, which is what they're based on. I included the heavy weapon because the ranged cultist squad has a heavy stubber in it.
