1. Do units have to maintain some semblance of coherency?
2. Can models leave combat voluntarily?

My FLGS and I have started playing and we're all 40k converts. I'll post follow up questions here as we come across them. Cheers!

Yes, models have to stay within 1" of other in their unit. So much closer together than 40k. But still more fun that giant blocks.

Models can leave combat by retreating but then I think they cannot shoot, possibly not other things. (I'm a recent convert as well so I can't remember at the moment, Khorne refuses to retreat though ;D )

1) Models have to be within one inch of their unit companions.

2) You can enact a retreat move in the movement phase (or hero phase should you be destruction, but more on the latter). You make this by making your move characteristic (plus run if you want) away from the enemy unit. You MUST place ALL your models at more of 3'' away from your enemy unit. You cannot shoot nor charge afterwards in that turn.

Thanks. Where in the rules does it state you have to be within 1"?

Page one (166 if you're looking on the GHB): warscrolls and units.

It is the second paragraph under the heading "Warscrolls and Units." It says, "A unit must be set up and nish any sort of move as a single group of models, with all models within 1" of at least one other model from their unit. If anything causes a unit to become split up during a battle, it must reform the next time that it moves."

Usually the only way It comes up in my games is if you choose models in the middle of a unit to die. Then, if you want to make a pile-in move, that move has to end within coherency (and still closer to the nearest enemy model) so it it a thing to consider when choosing which models die

Hey guys, it's sort of a rules question, but do you think anyone would take umbrage with me using the Retributors as Grandhammers in the starter set units? They'd be replacing the shield and hammer liberator primes.

Is there a permanent stickied thread for Chaos players to complain every time someone/anyone gets models or rules besides them? If not, there should be.

If anyone did so he's a bag of dicks. I for me would be fine.

A few more questions:

1. Where do I find the points cost for Battalions?
2. Does Slaanesh have any formations?
3. Does taking a Mark of Khorne/Nurgle/Tzeentch/Slaanesh on units like Warriors or Knights confer any abilities, or is it just adding the keyword?

1)GHB will give you the points for those battallions that do have'em. Some are just intended for narrative play (and thank god, some are very strong).
2) Yes.
3) It confers the keyword in most cases. In some instances, like lords and daemon princes you get special abilities. Nevertheless, all these models that have, say, the keyword will become elegible for special rules that only can be conferred to the servants of those gods. The best example of this is the chaos warshrine, which gives extra bonuses if you select units which have the same keyword as the prayed god.
