Could some people in the community give me their thoughts on The Army Painter paint range?

I really like their quickshades, but I am finding the paints I have are very inconsistent. Some of the paints are very nice and flow out of the droppers smoothly while some are very thick and problematic. While looking around online, most of the posts I am finding are 1 or 2 years old, and I am looking for any recent perspectives on these paints.

Am I better off going to Game/Model Color and just using the quickshades and washes from AP?

Thanks for any feedback on this.

Love the sprays. The few bottled paints I've had have been terrible.

I just bought the 34 bottle set. I am not a huge fan of them so far. They are watery paints (you do not have to follow Duncan's advice and thin them) and not real opaque. The washes stink to high heaven, which is odd.

I play Orks so paint a lot of models and like a thicker paint so I can get away with a single base coat for skin before washes and highlights so have to keep using GW or Vallejo to do so. The liquidity of them is alright for detail work though. I've made my bed so I will lie in it and use them up, but I'm sticking with Vallejo in the future.

I really don't like Army Painter.

I find their sprays have a weird grainy finish (although I've only used wolf grey) their paints are really terrible to use, way to thin.

And the brushes stink to high heaven but I don't think many people were expecting much.

I guess its a good example of 'you get what you pay for'

I should have explained...but yes, as above - I only have two colours, but I did purchase a couple bottles of each. Both are exceptionally watery with extremely poor coverage.

Now, I gave the first one a pass because it's a yellow (and all yellows are pretty bad), but the purple is terrible as well. I thought maybe I had just picked up some bad paints --- seems like that's not the case. I'd seriously say skip them unless you want to paint 46 layers on each piece of your model.

colours - I've tried a few, not a fan. they're more like a thick glaze than a paint, real lousy coverage....I will say the "matt black" is actually quite nice though, even if it does actually have a bit of a satin finish, rather than matt...

metallics - I've used "gun metal" and "plate mail"...they're good

washes - I've used "dark tone", "strong tone", and "soft tone"...all good, I really like those ...I plan on buying a full set of their washes sometime soon, so hopefully the colour tones are as good as the 3 I've tried...

...it's good to be green!

Ah yes, that is one thing I forgot to give them credit for, their dips are quite handy.

Used the metalics, washes and some of the colours.

Colours yes cam be thinner, not as strong as higher end ones. Matts are fine though, same are the more blacks and greys.

Metalics great... Got gold, plate metal, bronze, gold, iron and silver. Swear by em. Gold is beaten by gw base gold but that stuffs magic in a pot.

Washes have full set.
Used full set. Impressed by results. Colour tones are good. Pretty strong sp use sparingly and build up sometimes depending on effect wanted.

They're fantastic. I love them more than is healthy for a man to love paint.

Seconded. There brilliant. Give metalics a go too!
