My friend and I are starting 30k. We are aiming to play 2000 points. We need some help with putting together our lists before we spend all our savings at the forgeworld shop

SONS OF HORUS - 1997 points:

HQ
Preator 140pt (IDigital Lasers, Lightning Claws)
Master of Signal 95pt

ELITES
5 Termies 2xpowerfist+combi weap 3xlightninsclaws, dreadclaw drop pod 244pt (in spartan tank)
5 Termies, 4xcombiweap. plasmablaster 333pt (in drop pod)
Contemptor Dreadnought 180pt cc weapon, twin-linked Autocannon

TROOPS
10 tacticals+Rhino 160pt
10 tacticals (in Spartan) 125pt
10 tacticals (on foot)
5 Recon-squad, 4 snipers 125pt

HEAVY
Spartan 305 pt (quad lascannon, twin linked heavy bolter)
Jetbike Squadon 210 3 meltas


The Spartan can transport 2 units correct, how does that work, do they both disembark at the same time?

The 3rd unit of 10 tacticals was to get some more bodies on the ground, but don't know if we should include them.

The goal of the list is to be able to tackle most kinds of armies (in 30k) what are your thoughts.

This is my first list and with no 30k expereince any help would be greatly appriciated.

okay, so:
1) don't be afraid to kit out your praetor for CC. Artificer armour, Iron Halo, Digital lasers, paragon blade + power fist. He is a blendy, BLENDY person.
2) run your 10 termies as a single 10-man squad with power fists (or power weapons) in the spartan. in 30k it's cheaper to run larger squads than MSU.
3) I like multiple large tactical squads. Point in case, run it as 10 tacticals in a rhino, and then a 20-man tactical squad. Buy extra CCWs and put artificer armour on the srgt.
4) put flare shield on the spartan

The spartan is not a super heavy, but a land raider that can hold 25 marines (or 10 terminators + 2 terminator HQs).

Like I said above, larger squads are key in 30k. Against you're buddy it will probably do fine, but you guys will wanna expand up to ~2,500 for the best feel of the game, and don't be afraid to bring non-optimal units. 30k is a game more largely related to the fluff of your army rather than just bringing the best unit. Maybe add an assault squad or some reavers to get more of the " fast and staby" feel of the Sons of Horus? It's also good to remember that in 30k, ONLY troops and other certain units can score.

Seems like a good idea to field the terminators in one large unit, would you kit them out for all melee or mix in a few combi weapons?

we're guessing Blendy means he ruins the opponets day in CC?

Kitted out right, you're Praetor can pump out 7 AP: 2 swings at S: 5 that cause instant death on sixes, BEFORE anyone else who's not a praetor or primarch can swing. VERY killy
And I wouldn't bother with combi-weapons. they look cool and are fun to field, but IMO they are too costly. I run my terminators with combi-bolters and everyone running with a fist or chain fist.
