Hi all,
If you were to have to change the setting of 40k to be sigmarized, then what changes would you make?

Presumably, make it more like Age of Sigmar.

Is Sigmarizing a setting sort of like Martinizing your drycleaning?

At a guess:
- Removing some of the old pun names from the 80's, e.g. Lionel Johnson, Vulcan He Is Tan, etc. The Primarchs return, but die creating the new galaxy.
- Have less sharp divisions between the races, Eldar, Humans, Tau and Kroot could all be living in the same hive city.
- Switch the armies from being about a place (Biel Tan, Cadia, etc.) to being able a role or idea (Greater Good, Death, etc.)

I guess it would be:

-Destroy a perfectly good setting people have grown to love over decades
-turn it into a hack rules system that lacks any nuance or tactical thought
-make everything more marines all the time. Because we need even more heroic marines being even better than the already established heroic marines. They aren't heroic enough anymore.

Make everyone bigger, especially marines, but give them all smaller heads! Bring the Emperor back, bigger than Magnus, with a guardsman sized head. That would be ideal.

Don't forget changing the names of everything into nonsensical Wikiwords for Maximum Copyright. Why have a simple Plague Sorcerer when you could have a Slopmaw Maggotmancer? (And yes, that's a real example). Basically, treat 40k like Hasbro treats Transformers: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Blastification

Also, gut model ranges and squat armies. Make units snap-fit, and remove options. Dumb everything down in the name of "abstraction" and write lazy rules.

I wouldn't.

Trite, I know. but 40k doesn't need "sigmarification".

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

If by AoSing 40k you mean lore wise?

bubble worlds?

would be pretty cool to see whats up with all the worlds stuck in the giant space butt hole tear that is the rift.

otherwise the only thing that will cause a full end times is the death of the big E.

Model wise? well we already got adeptus restarties.

im hoping for new guards and stuff too.

Everything besides the lowest infantry has at least one weapon or special rule that deals mortal wounds.

All units have standards.

Give Khorne more human units, but make them awful and more expensive than taking generic CSM with the MoK.

Hate to break it to you but you just described 8th edition. The end isn't nigh, it's already happened.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

Well, let's see. I suppose you could have Chaos win that big battle they've been fighting for a while, so everything gets super dark, but because you want to sell models you have it so that big guy from the backstory magically shows up, and hey, he's got a whole load of new super warriors in cool new armour to save everyone and hey wait a minute, they've already done it!

I'm starting to wonder: was it a genuine question at the beginning or aimed at rant? I hope it was aimed at it cause we're being quite mad here .

Though i couldn't call the 8th rules anything, it's true that lore wise, it IS already sigmarized. Just bring back the muthafookin Emprah back in on the stage and i guess it's arguably thoroughly "age of sigmar in power armor."

Haha, well I'd certainly say 8th is about half way sigmarized.

You have the primaries marines which are extremely stupid and their very existence makes normal marines and their 10,000 year history pointless.

But to be fair they didn't completely blow up the setting like they did with fantasy. It's still 40k but it has advanced in time.

The rules are again another mix of good and bad ideas. It's not a full on gak show like AoS. There's a lot that's better about 8th than there was about 7th. That being said, basically all the design elements they ported over from AoS are terrible such as morale, psychic phase and lack of characters joining units.

They also needed to expand upon flyers and actually make them part of the core rules. Flyer rules are too complex (or should be) to be thrown into the unit as a separate "bespoke" rules entry when so many units share the same rule.

Removal of shooting arcs just dumbs down the game even further.

Removal of universal special rules is just bad form and makes no sense from an organizational stand point. The rules are all over the place, they should be located completely in on section of the book, then added onto the unit card for quick reference. There was no need to remove them and have every unit have its special snowflake rules that are all named something different.

40k currently is more enjoyable than 6/7th edition. It does play better, but as usual they don't know when to stop the pendulum from swinging to far. 40k is still a mess, it's just a slightly more enjoyable mess.

TBH i don't really like the new setting, it deodn't feel alright to the extend that 40k's fluff is somehow meant to be in a stand by, as the galaxy is about to collapse. At that point, it is not messy lorewise, it is extremly strained and stifling due to the overall pressure and threat the eeader percieves. What looks messy is the way battle are fought on the ground, the completly over thr top amount of lives wasted, the over the top horror and power of the ennemy of man, the over the top heroism displayed and so on and so forth.

Now, it just feels like a gigantic mess with no more sens anyhow: it's just clashes everywhere in a way that feels almost "random" anymore.

The lore does not convey this sandbox in imminent death danger, and i believe it was to that extend messed up.

I actually kinda like AoS's setting, I just wish it didn't exist in exclusion to WHFB.

Nope. I don't want elfs riding dinosaurs in space. I want space faring Lizardmen who ride Cyber Dinos (like the space wolves and their cyber wolves). I want all out lizard men. Some kind of crazy cross between Necrons temple and ritual aesthetic and space wolves primal savagery with tech. I would sell off every model I have to invest entirely in space Lizardmen.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

1. Your love of something doesn't equate to sales. GW is a business and dont function on the love from fans. Fact is nobody was buying WHFB anymore, and the cost of entry into the hobby was paralyzingly high.
2. You obviously haven't played any sigmar if you think it lacks tactical thought and nuance.
2a. Nobody is stopping you (and the apparently) HORDES of people from playing 8th edition.
3. You HONESTLY dont think SCE look awesome, have great lore and have loads of potential?
