Possibly entering a tournament soon and arguing with myself with what to take with me. It’s set at 1000 points, I’m using White Scars tactics and can’t make up my mind which of these would be better:

Version 1
C.A.D.:
Techmarine: Conversion Beamer, Bike – 105
Bike Squad 1: 3 Bikes, 2 x Flame, Attack Bike with HB - 113
Bike Squad 2: 3 Bikes, 2 x Grav - 93
Bike Squad 3: 3 Bikes, 2 x Grav - 93
Bike Squad 4: 3 Bikes, 2 x Melta - 83
Bike Squad 5: 3 Bikes, 2 x Melta – 83
Attack Bike: Multimelta - 50
Attack Bike: Multimelta - 50

Stormbringer Formation:
Scouts 1: 5 Scouts, Combi-Melta, Landspeeder Storm, Multimelta -115
Scouts 2: 5 Scouts, Combi-Melta, Landspeeder Storm, Multimelta -115
Landspeeder: HB & HF – 50
Landspeeder: HB & HB – 50

Version 2
C.A.D.:
Teachmarine: Conversion Beamer, Bike – 105
Bike Squad 1: 3 Bikes, 2 x Flame - 73
Bike Squad 2: 3 Bikes, 2 x Grav - 93
Bike Squad 3: 3 Bikes, 2 x Grav - 93
Bike Squad 4: 3 Bikes, 2 x Melta - 83
Bike Squad 5: 3 Bikes, 2 x Melta – 83
Attack Bike: Multimelta - 50
Attack Bike: Multimelta - 50

Stormbringer Formation:
Scouts: 5, Sgt w Combi-Melta and MB, Landpeeder Storm w Multimelta – 120
Landspeeders: 2, HB & HB, HB & HF – 100
Landspeeder: MM & MM - 70
Landspeeder: MM & MM - 70

I know they are very, VERY similar lists, but not sure where the tipping point is when it comes to armor punch. Obviously the major difference being a unit of scouts vs more landspeeders.

I like having the special weapons all over the place, I have plenty of low AP, fair amount of high strength.

Just a glance should make it clear my intention is to shoot and move, keeping the assaults to a minimum and generally just using CQC as a way to get stuck in to avoid shooting, or as cleanup later in the game with multiple units charging (easy to do with bikes).

The meta I’m expecting is actually a breath of fresh air around here, its not just the same nonsense over and over. Although to be honest I’m still expecting to see a few knights and riptides, even at 1k….

I have a feeling though that horde lists (orks and bugs in particular) may give me issues though as I only have a few units that are okay at blob killing, and they are just that- okay.

Scouts work great for early objectives or 1st turn tank suicide run, even outflanking if the opportunity presents itself. Infiltrate if it doesn’t. Plenty of other melta running around to crack other tanks and transports.

Techmarine just seems like fun to stay in the back field being a pain from long range with the beamer.

Any and all advice welcome. One vs the other, making changes to both approaches, whatever you think might be better. Thank you all!

Personally, Imwould go with the extra scouts in the Landspeeders- I like scouts, as I think they give a bit of extra flexibility to you list that more Landspeeders can't provide. I wouldn't feel like I was wasting a scout squad on objectives, nor as a suicide unit for taking out tanks (I think you could take out two or three weaker ones before you went down if you committed the storm)

Thank you very much for the response. I was toying with adding even MORE scouts on top of that, just to give it a whirl. I feel safe doing things like that in such low points. I put the flame bikes in there for fluff reasons (yes, this is my blasted Road Warrior/Mad Max themed list I've been concocting for the better part of a decade.)

Also yes I had this entire force plus another 500 or so points extra already converted/kit-bashed, but still needing paint and some additional work, BEFORE Fury Road came out. Just for the record.

But anyway, I had been thinking of pulling that whole flame unit in favor of a 3rd scout squad with just a MM on the storm, sadly no room for a combi weapon. BUT, this also gives more flexibility plus the added bonus of infiltrate, scout, and possibly outflank are quite serious things to consider vs a few extra wheels. The attack bike in the squad was really just to make the squad bigger and attach to the Techmarine. Plus its 2 pts less than 2 bikes, still brings 2 wounds to the squad, and with the 36" range makes it so the Conversion Beamer hitting the same target is at the middle of the stat spectrum. Just my reasoning for that particular idea.
