Hey, I'm planning on starting bloodbowl. If I buy a team and Death Zone is that all I need to get going, or do I need the starter box too?

Thanks in advance!

You will need either starter box (board, templates, rulebook and dice) OR DIY the board and templates, buy an e-copy of the rulebook and get/share a set of dice/use regular d6 on a chart of the possible effects.

EDIT: You may also get along pretty well rules-wise with the reference guide linked in this post:

If you can find someone else getting into the game as well then if you both buy a box and one of you takes all orcs and the other takes all humans you'll have plenty of figs for each position and plenty of conversion parts to make them all unique. Or use the extras for your opponents to dress up their bases

Seems like you already have your answer, but the Starter Box is what you should. Not only you get access to two teams to play with but gives you board, dice, rulebook and templates. Recommended you still get Deathzone Season one as well if you want to run a league. The two teams out of the box are solid but should get more to max out positionals in the future and get an Ogre/Troll as your team's centerpiece heavy hitter.

@Theophony's suggestion is also great if you have a friend getting into it as well.
