So in the rules for the Y'Vahra's thrust move it says "at the beginning of the controlling player's movement phase a Y'Vahra may move as a Swooping Monstrous Creature." If I'm coming on from reserves can I "swoop", or must I walk for a turn? Thanks!

The newest FAQ lets the actual player choose 'start of X Phase' stuff happen in any order he wants. So I'd say you can.
I'd put it in Deep Strike reserves instead of moving from you own table edge, though.

The rule book is clear that you can't use rules that are done at the start of the movement phase on the same turn you come in from reserves

I disagree, CrownAxe. It says it can't use abilities that must be used at the start of the turn.
Movement Phase isn't start of turn - there's a separate part for turns sequencing; start of turn is used for rolling reserves and pick objective cards, for example. This is explained in the 'Turn Summary' box in he 'The Turn' chapter.

Well here's what I'm stuck on:
1) I reserve my y-tide
2) I swoop onto the board during the reserves "sub-phase" whatever you want to call it. But, i moved. When you place reserves, whether deep strike or. it, that counts as moving. You don't put the base flush with the back of the table edge during "reserves" and then move normally in the movement phase.
Of course I want Vector Strike to be right, but I'm worried about my opponents crying foul. I need to come armed with a nuanced and convincing understanding of this lol

With the short-ranged weaponry of the Yvahra, I don't thik they'll complain much - as you'll be coming from your board edge.

Well the impetus of all this is I did exactly that and the guy called me on it. And I wasn't sure so I said okay and I just walked him on behind LOS and swooped the next turn but it hurt me, y-tide was effectively out of the game for 3 full turns.

I'd agree that you could do this since it says start of the movement phase you can choose to move that way, and there's not a restriction on the beginning of the movement phase like there is at the beginning of the turn.
You can let a bike or jetbike turboboost in from Reserves, I don't see this as being different from allowing that as it's a choice you're making during movement.

Sorry to belabor all this, but doesn't a bike/jetbike technically turboboost during the shooting phase? I know I've always resolved it in the movement phase, with my opponent's permission, but of course I could have been wrong this whole time.

@ The Shrike Yeah turbo-boosting (and Flat Out) is done in the Shooting phase. Like you however, I normally do it in the Movement phase (as long as I have permission and it will not interfere with other units).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Choosing to use a jump pack to move in 12" from Reserves might have been a better comparison.

It seems like this is a grey enough area that I should email Forgeworld. Not sure if they'll give me an answer, but I'll squeeze in a question about the rumored Tau vs. Mechanicus book that's been around forever.
