Gathering the Informations.

With the release of an updated Cypher model and "Rise of the Primarch" we got Fallen Angels as their own faction.

How is everyone planning on running them? What do you think will make them interesting or unique to play with? Do you see "Fallen Champions"(their unique formation) as being the only viable way to run them?

I, personally, am stuck on how to outfit them. I have a box full of bits from ages ago and am spinning my wheels on how to equip the Fallen themselves. Would love some opinions. I'm looking at the Fallen as a great way to run small games with newer players without feeling like I have to pull my punches.

Just ordered some MKIV Marines and DA Veterans to start converting Fallen.

Also very curious to hear what folks are thinking for loadouts. My initial thoughts are a plasma squad to hang out close to Cypher and a CC-oriented squad full of power weapons and maybe a pair of lightning claws.

I'll probably omit a melta squad since I plan to run the Fallen alongside a LoTD Spectral Host with a couple deep striking MM/Melta squads.

Cheers!

At first glance i find the fallen, Underwelming.

We basically got ourselfs expensive Veterans with slightly different weapon loadout options. There is no option to take transports so you are kinda forced to take the Fallen Champions formation to make use of cypher and the infiltrate special rule.

As for loadout options i would say make them a glass canon as i dont see them surviving a whole game.

It is also kinda needed to go battle brothers since their useful formation only allows for 3 squads and Cypher.

But, i have only looked at them twice now. There might be options/combinations i am missing of course.. Ill just let the mathhammer guys loose at them first

I think shooty loadouts are going to be the standard with Fallen. Plasma especially. I don't see them being super competitive compared to other things, but they could be fun alongside a WE Butcherhorde, providing a decent shooting contingent in an otherwise melee-focused army.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

For shooty squads, is there value in including a lascannon or autocannon, or just keep it simple and load up on plasma/combi-plas?

Chaos gets super little out of the Fallen. Alpha Legion would be easier to ally in for them.

What it DOES though is give Loyalists infiltrating Melta and Plasma Guns. With a Flamer in the mix for the dastardly Cults you might bump into.
