Hello ladies and gents

I never played a total war before and a, still catching the ropes if anyone can help that would be great.

1: I hate lossing a lord and the whole army. But here is the thing I can't figure out.
If a lord say lord John gets trapped by stupid hidden beastmen and dies all the units dies, I know that but is he gone forever? I had lord John level 14 then he died. Can I rebuild him ever? Or is it best to stick to just legendary lords who I can keep rebirthing?

2: how do I see my chances of winning a fight with auto resolve?

3: where do I find unit levels? Not heroes just like a chaos giant? I had two heroes attached that boost unit exp but ..... What does it do?

4: why does everyone always hate me? I tried empire took my land and set in the middle doing nothing but building. Fought off a beastmen then everyone freaks out and attacks me. It seems they always have (hates you because you fought) then it is a faction they are not friends or enemys with just nutural.

I need to go to work every day.
Millions of people on welfare depend on me.

1) depends. If simply wounded Lord John will return after X number of turns. If killed he is gone gone. Only Legendary Lords are immune to being killed. As your empire grows you'll need non-Legendary lords to command your armies, especially as some factions only have 1 or 2 legendary lords.

2) You should see a bar with yellow and red sections. This is the balance of power that represents the relative strengths of the two armies and helps you judge your odds in an autoresolve.

3) Look at your unit cards. They will have a number of chevrons in bronze, silver, and gold, that represent their current experience level looks like this. If you hover your mouse over the individual unit you can see a verticle exp bar on the left hand side of your screen where the units info is displayed.

4) Because it's warhammer

More seriously, most factions start the game hated by most of their neighbors but how you handle your diplomacy can help this in the early game. This might require a bit of an explanation;

Spoiler:

A lot of managing diplomacy in Total War games is a mix of factors. If your goal is to be on friendly terms with some of your neighbors here are a few things not to do;

-Declare war on them (obviously)
-Declare war on their friends
-Use your agents against them
-Use your agents on their friends
-Violate their borders
-Violate their friends borders

The last two are really important. Zufbar will hate you a lot more for violating their territory than they'll like you for beating that ork army banging on Oakenhammer's doors.

In any case to make friends look at who they like and don't like. I find the best starting point is to find who they hate and sic my agents on them. Every agent action will build my rep with my desired friend and anyone else who hates my target. Of course it also means my target hates me, and their friends hate me too.

The best way to manage your relations is pick who you want to be friendly with and who is a safe target for your agents or a declaration of war. Dwarves are actually pretty easy to get onto good terms with (unless your orks/goblins, obviously). Simply declare war on Orks and Goblins factions and the Dwarves take notice. For a lot of factions this is very convenient as well because the Orks and Goblins are mostly in the south and not a significant threat to the Vamps, Brets, or Elves. What groups are in your immediate area are easily dispatched, and you'll probably end up at war with the Greenskin horde anyway.

This can be really tricky with human groups as different ones hate and like each other. Empire and Vampire Count games involve no small part of picking and choosing a side, then prosecuting a war against your new mutual enemy. In your diplomacy screen you'll see a face by every faction, hover over it to see what the + and - are as these help you gauge what you're doing right and wrong in the game of Warhammer friendship.

When Chaos arrives you get it really easy (again unless Orks/Gobs). Declare war on the Chaos Warriors and pretty much everyone starts liking you.

Some factions just don't like you and there isn't much you can do about it. If you're playing Chaos be ready not to have many friends south of Not-Russia (Kesiv or something like that). Chaos, and Beastmen are not factions that play the diplomacy game that much, and Orks only really play it with each other.
