So I am looking into getting involved in the warhammer 40k table top game, however there is one huge brick wall for me: the painting.
I basically am looking for;
a good tutorial for painting space wolves, fur and weapons. I am not looking for the best of the best standards and methods such as edge highlighting are not important to me and I would rather not begin with it.
A list of paints/equipment I need to begin the hobby
And any general advice for a new player/painter.
Thanks all

I have watched many of his vids and they are excellent, but there is a lot there and is quite overwhelming for a new painter. I was aiming for something more akin for a new comer.

Youtube is full of great painting tutorials. At some point you gotta just nut up and start painting. Find some old crap models to practice techniques on. Essentially you are either base coating, dry brushing, washing, or highlighting.

It depends on what kind of grey you want. I don't like the blue-grey myself so I just used Halford's grey primer to do this:

Note: these are work-in-progress so very basic.
After finishing the base colours the plan is to gloss varnish then do a black wash. The gloss varnish is to help the wash flow into the recesses.
Also note that the black isn't black but a very dark grey I mixed myself.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

The videos made by GW are entirely made for a newcomer, he literally starts at the beginning and goes to the end (to a good or above table-top standard).

Unfortunately, you won't really find anything more simple than the videos put out by Duncan, because there is no real demand or need for it. That said, if you aren't that keen to go so far (as you kind of mentioned by saying you don't care about edge highlighting), you don't have to do all of his steps, you can simple basecoat, wash and then touch up the basecoat.

Perhaps it would be an idea to find a nearby LGS or GW store and ask for a painting lesson, getting someone to show you what you want to know might be more helpful than trying to find a predetermined video.

My biggest advice for new painters, is to just paint. You might come to enjoy it, you might not, but you will only find out if you try.

Army Painter Wolf Grey coloured primer. Paint eyes, shoulder pads and weapons. Dunk in Army Painter dark tone and shake off the excess. Job done.
