Some buddies got me back into some 40k and looking to finally get a larger list done.
I like to be competitive as possible (thats how I have fun playing) while still not relying too heavily on cheesy skews or whatnot. Skews are fine if they are thematic, I think yall get what I mean.

Ive been away from 40k for a while and am re realizing some of the problems I had with the 2014 ork codex. Its just not very imaginative. My thinking on orks(or atleast with the new codex) is that there isnt anything that overwhelming super awesome. Point sinks in Orks tend to be just that so I tend to take units that have amazing potential for very cheap. I feel like spending points on more expensive options tends to be a waste in overall effectiveness. So when I build lists each option never goes over about 200 points, but when I build lists like this that slots tend to fill up WAY too fast. And this was my overall issue with no imagination being put into this codex. There is no way to alter or modify the existing force organization chart. This is a huge issue if you want to run bikes and planes or what have you, there are NO WHERE NEAR enough slots. I honestly feel that every slot in the orks codex (BESIDES THE TROOP SLOT) is so contested, and I cant for the life of me figure out why they didnt introduce ways for other units to occupy the troop role.
Is there any way to legally expand upon the force org chart to get more elite/FA/HS slots?

Anyways heres the core of my list that I want to fill out:
+ HQ +

Big Mek[/u] [140pts]: Killsaw, Kustom Force Field, Warbike

+ Troops +

Boyz [157pts]
·· Boss Nob: Bosspole, Power Klaw, Slugga
·· 11x Boy
·· Trukk: Reinforced Ram, Rokkit Launcha, Wreckin' Ball

·· Warbuggy: Twin-linked Rockit Launcha
·· Warbuggy: Twin-linked Rockit Launcha

++ Total: [1014pts] ++

So FA is taken care of, if I had more FA slots id prob take more buggies/Bikes or maybe a plane or some kopters but im honestly fine with what I have.

Elites kinda bug me, I really like to take some min TankBustas (110 w/truckk), some kommandos, MANz missles, or nob bikers but THERE ARENT ENOUGH SLOTS!!!!

HS: Not as contested by my obvious take is a bit boring. Id probabaly take like 2xLobbaa/Kannons cause that cost to value ratio is insane. The last slot initally was some traktor kannons as a meta choice so I have some kind of silver bullet against flyers but some one mentioned KMK and they make alot of sense too since AP2 is tricky to find in orks.

Im really interested in getting one of the Naughts in a pair. There was some discussion on another topic about them, which one really comes out on top in more scenarios or are they just casual point sinks like how i first looked at them when the codex first came out.....?

But again....... I DONT HAVE ENOUGH SLOTS.

Hi, you can go double cad and field 6 FA slots, it's not difficult as you probably want to field 2 HQs and 4 troops anyway.

I'd avoid planes unless you really love the models, they're not efficient. Bikes are awesome and single deffkoptas extremely useful. Large units of warbuggies can be nice too.

About elites tankbustas and meganobz are great, nob bikers terrible and kommandos have their usage but they're not particularly competitive. A manz missile and two min units of tankbustas in trukks are solid.

Don't struggle to get some ranged anti AV14 or ap2 in, orks have none. KMK are nice as anti heavy infantries, and may worth it, but a full unit of lobbas is extremely good. Traktot kannons are very situational as you may not face flyers that you need to get down or you may face no flyers at all. A single traktor kannon can serve its purpose.

Avoid the naughts too, they're terrible.

Against AV13-14 or armour 2+ your pks are your best friends. A meganob with a pair of killsaws is the best answer to high AV.

To complete your list just add units in trukks (boyz, tankbustas, manz), a full unit of lobbas, and another bike HQ, a warboss.

Spare some points, cut the wrecking balls and take only min units of trukk boyz, 9 + the nob are enough.

Anyway building a 1850-2000 points with a single cad and no formations is almost impossible if you also want something viable. Taking two cads is the simplest way to bring your favourite units.

Its such a bummer to hear that all the fancy stuff is just garbage on the table. Anything worth looking at thats even remotely worth its points in FW?

What happened to Nob bikers, they used to be the nuts was the inclusion of super heavies too much for them?

Also whats the typical composition of the bike star now? KFF?

Bikers deathstars are typically composed by a warboss with pk and lucky stikk, a painboy and 10+ bikers with a nob big pole and pk. Some player also add zhadsnark in the same bunch. But most of the times having 2-3 mid sized units of bikes, all with their pk and bp nob and the warboss that joins one of them is better.

The big mek with kff is nice but most of the times the 5+ FNP is better than the 5+ invuln, as bikes get a better save if they jink, and the painboy is cheaper. The kff is useful when there are some other units around that are not paper thing (like trukks) to protect, typically a stompa.

We're talking about competitive or semi-competitive games, in a fluffy friendly game you can take almost every unit in the codex. Every army has most of their stuff out when it comes to make competitive lists, even eldar, tau and SM have a lot of units that never show up in their best lists.

The reason nob bikers aren't used much anymore is their price tag. Normal warbikers got a price drop in 7th to 18 points (from 25 or something in 5th/6th ed) but nob bikers are still 45 points a model. For 2/5 of the price of a nob biker you only lose 1 wound and 1 strength as a warbiker and can't take as many power klaw/big choppas but you can make up for that my attaching big meks and warbosses. The inability to take nobs as troops like in the 5th ed Ork Codex makes them slightly less valuable now that Zadsnark can make warbikers troops.

If you want to you can use a Great Waaagh! Detachment to unlock the Big Bosspole on a warboss for fearless on the biker star. Zadsnark is definitely worth the points for skilled rider and bikers as troops. If you do go with Great Waaagh! Detachment you can use 5 tankbustas in a trukk as the Elites choice tax.
