I'm literally new in 40K (roughly 3 months) and we're going to have a sort of newbie friendly event in a few days. I'm trying out several Deathwatch lists and this is what worked well for me so far. I would like to get more input from you guys for any possible improvement/add/less units or loadouts. I'm expecting to face 2 SMs, 2 GKs, 2 Orks and an Eldar.

Black Spear Strike Foce (990 pts)

Core: 735pts
- Watch Company
- Watch Captain (Boltgun & Chainsword)
- 2x Furor Kill Team
Terminator (Storm Bolter, Power Fist w/ Aux Melta)
5 Veterans (2x Frag cannons, 3 Shotguns)
- 2x Kill team
5 Veterans (Boltgun & Chainsword)

Auxillary: 155pts
- Dreadnought (Assault Cannon & Power Fist w/ storm bolter)
Drop Pod w/ Locator beacon

Command: 100pts
- Dreadnought (Multi-melta & Power Fist w/ Storm Bolter)

Main strat is Multi Dread shoots from afar, Drop Pod Dread harasses back line, the Kill teams DS, if possible within the locator beacon to avoid mishaps. Furors pack the extra melta in case of DTs.

As it is, I'm not sure how I will deal with flyers. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I'd do whatever it takes to make both Dreadnoughts venerable.

Getting an assault cannon on the second would help with a flier. I'd throw 8 shots at a flier that hit on 6s, for sure.

With such a small army it is very important that you position your forces in a way where the enemy flier either doesn't get a lot of shooting because he has to go 18" or force him to drop into hover mode to keep engaging at which point the assault cannons would be great.

If your store is anything like mine, the most "marines" in your opponents' lists will be 5 guys hiding in rhinos. If it's not like that, I'm jealous.

What do you suggest I tweak on the list to accommdate the plus points to make the dreads venerable? Good point on the Assault Cannon

No Dreadnoughts. Just run Aquila's and/or Watch Company and more librarians. A lib for every drop pod to increase chances of survival. Frag cannons and boltguns for every drop pod and anyone on foot carries a stalker pattern boltgun to hold back objs.

thanks for the suggestion. clarification though, wasn't it "clarified" on the latest FAQ that Kill Teams can no longer take dedicated transports? I'm not sure you can purchase Drop Pods with BSSF. Thoughts?

They can take transports that will fit them all. You can't take a drop pod with a kill team that has bikers. You have to use transports that allow all members of the KT to fit.

He can just take Assault Cannons on the terminators that he has in the Furor teams. Why would he take transports the formation gives all of his non-vehicle units deepstrike. All he would need is a locator beacon on the dreads drop pod, which he already has. Then all of his other units can drop there. I would give the two veteran teams some stalker pattern boltguns and you can start with them deployed where they can snipe for you and cover backfield objectives.

35 points to have majority come on turn 1 whereever they please? Oh yes, and furor kill teams are good and all but its more efficient for all rerolls of 1 to wounds and you're gonna be wounding on 2's with the frags most of the time anyways. Also why would you want to cluster your units so much? Those 6' won't do much even with snipers. Go drop pods

If your boltgun and chainsword guys do not also have a bolt pistol, swap the chainsword for a bolt pistol. The chain sword by itself doesn't do anything useful.

Can't. Vets not allowed to pick up bolt pistols
