Hello everyone, haven't played tyranids in a long time but want to use them in a semi competitive match against a friend with the First Curse formation. I know he'll probably have wyverns so I don't have too many other troops, and am focusing on a beta strike.
Termagaunts would probably be outflanking from Hive Commander.

Please let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions!

I would say you are better off just running allied detachment for the GSC, for the same point cost you are getting 2/3 (even 4) Genestealer Squads, that will give you greater chance for a 1st turn charge

(not going to mention Acolytes and such as I presume you are just using pre existing models, not acquiring new ones)

Hmm very true. Think that outweighs the benefits of running the first Curse?

Yeah, I have the cult models from Overkill and a box of neophyte hybrids (and countless genestealers). Anything better I could do with those? I'm new to genestealer cults.

Well I do like the new genestealers myself, and yes I believe the multiple untis outweigh the random bonus, Also if your mate is using guard, MSU's are great for mitigating potential losses from overwatch when charging

I would also suggest running the GSC element as a CAD and Making the Patriarch as your warlord (even though he is more squishy then other options) some of the GSC warlord traits can really benefit you

If you had the Acolytes with Special weapons, I would of suggested maybe taking some of them, but the ones in Overkill are just your stock standard models (buying at least 2 boxes of Acolytes for the sole purpose of Special Weapons, for that reason)

But I would suggest making your patriarch a psy lvl2, as the summon spell they have is amazing and then you can utilize your Overkill models

Myself I am not a fan of Swarmlord, and another flyrant is better, but I understand it may be a model limitation.

Got it, thanks! Will see what I can do.

I can do another flyrants, put swarmlord in there as most of the tyranids force would be in reserves, so the +1 would be nice.

that is true.. But an option that may work, as you would need 1 less pod, could be an agis def line, with coms

that will give you back your +1 plus provide some T1 covers for the HT's before they take to the sky =D

Good idea, I'll see what I can get with those extra points!

Thanks for all of your thoughts.

Well its got me thinking of doing similar.. was planning to take swarm nids against some mates this weekend... but may just throw in some GSC genestealers

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Another option is to use the Forces of the Leviathan Detachment instead of a CAD for your Nids.

it gives you 3 HQ slots, for a minimum 3 troops (max 9).

you don't get Obj Sec, but you get rerolls on instinctive behavior.

But this will mean you can split your termagants up in to 3 units
