Yeaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

First Dunkirk, now this.

Scott is a director I rate highly, so I look forward to this. Always room for another early WW2 movie.

I can only imagine how good the aerial shots will be

In the theater the movie will be 'meh' then a Bluray Directors Cut will come out that is pretty good. Just guessing.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Might be worth a look

Slight reservations about CGI, to me they haven't quite got the 'mass' problem sorted, Red Tails (important story told badly) had a few shots where the planes seemed distinctly 'floaty'

Indeed. The cast of that film has to be one of the greatest movie ensembles of all time, and it's a film I watch at least once a year, but I've got faith in Scott.

Yeah, he's been meh these past few years, but he did Alien, he did Blade runner, the Duellists etc etc

Will it be the director's cut though, or will we still be waiting years later for the final cut? Or the final final cut?

Love that movie - but wasn't it a big flop when it came out.

I know right - before my time but sad that it was not a great hit then - Alongside the Longest Day one of my fav WWII films - much prefer it to many modern films - also like that they at least try to have various nationalties who were actually there represented.

Wiki says there was a bit of antiwar backlash at the time. As it was made in 1969 I could see that.

Piece of Cake was a great mini-series about the Battle of Britain but I have not seen it in ages.

I like Scott's visuals, but lately his stories have been pretty weak.

Have no fear, somebody else is doing the script.

Somewhere in south-central England.

The old Battle of Britain film had its flaws, but the great thing was it used large numbers of real planes, mostly from the Spanish air force, and this gives it a physicality that computer graphics often lacks.

I would welcome a modern film with great graphics and better attention to the historical reality of the events.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

It's a fine line between giving a good story and historical balance. It's an entertainment business first and foremost, although I admit that accruacy and story are not mutually exclusive.

I would be happy if he was hired to remaster the original. While it has largely stood up, a lot of the aerial scenes really could do with a CGI upgrade at the hands of someone competent.

No no no, those were real planes (and some models) flying in real air. Leave it alone. If I want crappy CGI I'll watch every other movie this summer. Sorry I just feel strongly about not messing with action stuff.

(now you want to play CGI - revisit the B5 series for a refresh like they did with Star Trek. That would be interesting-imagining a refreshed Shadow cruiser blowing the crap out of something...choice!

Frazz, you need to visit some South of England air shows.

Reckon you'd get a right tickle out of them. You can probably bring the Weiner Dogs, but the guns will have to stay home.

The Confederate Airforce is based here. Nothing says loving like stepping out of a childrens park and hearing the sweet sweet sound of a Mustang's Merlin engine warming up. Sounds like...victory!

I want to visit the Bovington in a big way, dance a little swing next to a dead Panther (Driving an Easy Eight on the 22nd baby!!!).

Actually Frazzie there was a lot of animation work involved, some of it very shoddily done. Sure there was actual air footage also, but I am not complaining about that, and composites of those images could be used to replace the models.

CGI is not a buzzword for fail, Lucas might have made it seem so with his prequels, and Jacksons feth up of The Hobbit compounded that, but CGI can be good if done well, and it done plausibly and accurately rather than just to try and apply a directors warped vision of the rule of cool. Jurassic Park comes to mind here, nobody complained about the CGI there, in fact they praised it and still do, and computing has moved on a long way since 1992.
I would like to see the German bombers redone, with the actual bomber used left in and the models and shadows reaplced with CGI and the formations made up to be the size they actually were (they had one He111 it wasnt airworthy and it was used with a lot of greenscreen and they did that very well actually).
Big Wing needs attention as the distant planes looked blatantly fake, still images blurring in and out of focus and sliding across the camera due to editing errors.
Also the Heinkel formation silhouettes copy-paste repeated across the sky seen from the ground 'estimate a hundred plus heading for London' as seen from the point of view of the Air Corps observers, they need touching up more than a tad. The base film should be left as is, remastered maybe, maybe not, and any deleted scenes restored in.
If all this is done and new version is frankly unnecessary.

It's an artistic problem, not a technical one. The CGI technology available for Red Tails was perfectly adequate for doing realistic aircraft handling. The models and rendering were fine, the issue was that whoever drew the animation paths didn't have a very good eye for how the real aircraft would look. The model starts to rotate too quickly with no inertia, there's none of the slight wobble/floating/etc that real aircraft suffer from, etc. Doing it the right way is no more difficult technology-wise than doing it the lazy way, you're still telling the software where the digital model is at every frame and sending it off to the same rendering process. The problem is that you need someone with a lot of experience around aircraft to give you a realism check and you need to care enough about something that the vast majority of viewers won't notice.

But it hasn't improved to the point where it can replace the real planes used in the original.
