We decided to dust offf the models the other day and throw down for a game of 5th. 2k of Death Wing vs Orks.

Set Up

Simple capture the objective. 4 objectives, 1 behind the barricades, 1 in the bunker, 1 in the rocks, and 1 on the right hand hill.





Ork Turn 1


Da Mob surges forward. Storm Boyz gun down 1 terminator on the left side.



DW Turn 1


Terminators on the left kill 8 Storm Boyz w/shooting, and another 5 in combat, Storm Boyz break. Prometheus, Plasma Dread, and Termies in the center combine to kill 20 Boyz with shooting on the left and they break. Termies in the center kill 2 Tank Bustas, On the right 2 squads of Termies and Dread kill 14 boys w/shooting.




Orks Turn 2

Fleeing Boyz shake the Plasma Dread. Boyz on the left gun down 1 Terminator




DW Turn 2

On right Dread and Termies combine to kill 13 Boyz. In the center 2 squads of Termies combine to kill 9 Boyz through the Kustom Force Field. Prometheus kills 6 Tank Bustas. Termies on the left finish off the Storm Boyz. Chaplain and Termies finsish off the mob of Boyz on the right (only a nob and 2 boyz were left), they conslolidate towards the objective in the rocks.



Orks Turn 3


Grots gun down a terminator on the left Boyz falling back take out another one. Grots assault and pull another Terminator down in combat Terminators kill 3 grots, they fail their break check but the Squig hounds keep them in place. Tank Bustas imobilize the Prometheus and destroy a Heavy Bolter. In the center Belial kills 4 Boyz Terminator Sgt take out another 2. Boyz stomp 4 terminators and the Nob gaks Belial, leaving just the guy with the assault cannon. In the center the Warboss kills 3 terminators and the Chaplain deals 1 wound to the Warboss.







DW Turn 3

Prometheus guns down 4 Tank Bustas, nearby Terminators finish them off in combat. Boyz in the center finish off the Assault Cannon Terminator from Belials squad. Dread storms into the Grots and kills 2. Grots finish the last Terminator.



Ork Turn 4


Looted Wagon gets takes out another Heavy Bolter on the Prometheus, leaving it a very expensive storm bolter Warboss puts a wound on the Chaplain, Terminators take out the Warboss. Dread kills 1 grot on the right. In front of the Prometheus Terminators kill 4 boys, and they in return take out 2 terminators.




DW Turn 4


Plasma Dread only kills 1 grot. In front of the Prometheus Nob takes out 1 terminator and Death Wing takes out 3 boyz.




Ork Turn 5


Boss Snikrot and his Kamandos arrive on the right flank.



Kamandos shoot down 1 Terminator and pull down 2 more in combat. Terminators kill 6 Komandos and they flee off the board. In the center Terminators kill
1 Boy.




DW Turn 5


Assault Cannon Dread guns down the Big Mek hiding in the rocks. Boyz take out 1 more Terminator in front of the Prometheus. Plasma Dread stomps on 2 more grots.




Ork Turn 6


Zap Guns wreck the Prometheus. Boyz finish off the Terminator in front of the wreck and consolidate towards the objective in the bunker. Plasma Dread stomps another grot.
Orks wait too long to send the Looted Wagon towards the objective in the rocks.




DW Turn 6

Assault Cannon Dread shoots down 4 boyz in the center, whiffs in combat, Nob cracks dread like a walnut and wrecks it.




In the end DW holds 2 objectives (1 on the hill, 1 on in the rocks). Orks hold the 1 in the bunker. Objective behind the barricades. Da Boyz couldn't get it done today, Death Wing wins 2-1


It was fun to play a simple game of 40K. Whole game pics and all took about 2hrs. I think it took longer to write up then it did to play This game did stir more thoughts
of 40K so we may be bringing some more games soon if you guys are up for watching old school games

That was a very enjoyable report! i like that the grots held the line, kinda, sorta, for a while. I mean, they did their duty.

I'd love to see more reports like this!

This was great! I can't believe how much carnage the Death Wing dished out in the first two turns. Orks were dropping in droves. I really thought with so many boyz, the Orks would win this one since the basic boyz match up pretty well against terminators, point for point. I guess I forgot how vulnerable big mobs were without Painboyz!

I have one question: were you allowed to assault the turn you arrived from Outflank in 5th edition? 4th - 6th eds run together in my mind. And when the kommandos fell back, why did they flee off the board instead of heading toward the Ork board edge?

I loved the battle. Keep making photo reports!

I've been having lots of fun with a couple buddies playing 4th edition. Nice to see some more retrohammer!

Quick question - just going by the pictures it looks like you had big chunks of boyz running off the table. No Mob Rule or Bosspoles? I'm pretty sure that the Ork codex remained the same between late 4th/5th ed. so your orks should work the same as mine, right?

In 5th Out Flank was just like coming in from reserve, so you could assault. It was good times. We did screw up the Komando's fall back, these old memories of ours. It should have been towards the Ork table edge. It wouldn't have mattered that much though, with 9 left they probably would have been gunned down, but it's good to remember for next time.

We were using the Mob Rule, but in the 4th ed codex they are only Fearless if they number 11 models or more. Once those big mobs were below %50 they couldn't ralley. The one Mob was 10 when it broke. He tried Boss Poles, but that only allows you to reroll the check, and let's just say he had some bad rolls for the boyz all across the board. The Squig Hounds however kept the Grots in the game for a long time. I think the hounds did more damage to that unit than the Death Wing
