Hello all!
I am new to playing 40k but am very well acquainted with the lore. I also watch many battle reports on Youtube and know generally how to play. I am trying to learn how to build armies and the math involved in playing. The strategies and games I have seen have made me fall in love with the Raven Guard and their Jump Packs and Lightning Claws! I do not yet have an army of codices but have been heavily researching. To start off I have a few questions regarding army composition:

-Do units have to have a Sergeant or can these be replaced with a character pre-game?
-What kinds of characters can be equipped with relics? Characters only? Sergeants?

Thank you so much and I look forward to playing this amazing game!

Welcome to Dakka!

I, too, am new to the math and crunch, so I sadly can't answer your question, but I hope you don' t mind if I spy on your thread and soak up some knowledge. <3

Welcome! The game and hobby are great on so many levels. Sometimes I lay in bed thinking about tactical combinations of units and strategies. Sometimes I lay in bed planning a conversion or painting project or a piece of terrain I'm going to make. But when I can't be painting or modeling or playing, I am usually thinking about it!

For marines, squads generally come with a sergeant automatically. Sergeants cant take relics. If you get an Independent Character they can take relics and can join a regular squad of troops. The character and the sergeant will both be in the unit at once (the sergeant is not "replaced").

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

IceAngel wrote:I must say Knightley, I am very envious of your squiggle ability. I mean, if squiggles were a tactical squad, you'd be the sergeant. If squiggles were an HQ, you'd be the special character. If squiggles were a way of life, you'd be Doctor Phil...
