This is as much to keep myself motivated as anything else. I am coming up on my first year anniversary of painting full time with my site Baphominiatures.com. We've been booked solid non stop and all the way through
September right now.

But Ive always wanted to sculpt and produce my own minis. So around December I bought a Solus 3D Printer and Zbrush, took some classes, and started sculpting. A few weeks ago I wanted to see what kind of small scale stuff
it could really pull off (Its known for being the best 3D Printer for highly detailed minis below $5k). Turns out of course its awesome at it, and it sparked an idea. Ive always wanted to play a post apocalypse game, where you
have your base with survivors, and runners who go out in search of supplies and running missions. So what Ive started doing is designing a game where you can play solo, coop, or have Rival camps who go after each other. I plan
on having the rules free online, and each box set will ship with about 70 unique miniatures, an 8"x8" base, and multiple objectives to be placed out in a 4x4 or 6x4 map (like Frontline Gaming Mats).
Ive priced what it will take for professional packaging so that it looks great and has an easy to ship container. While I already have all the equipment needed, I do plan on doing a Kickstarter around July or so to build interest and help
pay for a second Solus and possibly a FormLabs 2 3D printer to make doing the objectives/bases faster.

So in between commission painting work, Im sculpting like a madman. Ive decided on 23mm as the 'average' size, and as you can see in the pictures, the detail the solus can achieve at this level is outstanding.

The final list of models so far is

(All unique)
20 Survivors (6 Runners, 3 Families (Husband/wife/child), Doctor, Leader, Medic, and two singles.
40 Zombies
Extra Survivors for mission acquisition, this number not determined yet.

Base buildings:
3 Houses, 5 tents, Watchtower, 4 base wall sections, Water Tanks, Farm, Kitchen/store house.

Objectives
None designed so far, but Gas Station, Military Blockade, Doomsday bunker, Church, etc come to mind.

The game is to be designed so that you are basically seeing how long you can survive. Things are bleak. Ill start posting rules here once I feel they are finalized, right now Im up to 11 pages but theres a lot of editing. I want it to be
fun as a solo game, and brutal as a Player Vs Player game (Embodying the dark elements seen in the Walking Dead style of post apocalypse). The huge emphasis on Runners is a personal fantasy, and gun use is kept to a minimum.

Anyway, heres some prints to show what the products would look like. Ruler is included to show how crazy tiny some of this stuff is, I cant wait to get to paint them. All miniatures are one solid piece.

Prosthetic Blade Runner

Check out the strap on that spear...you could do bow strings with the Solus, it's awesome.

Machete/Hoody runner, I wish the water bottle shes holding was in focus:

Some larger zombies

This lady took a machete to the back and kept on going

Child zombies:

Home 1. Check out that cardboard box...that is such thin, yet durable Proto Resin...it still blows me away that it can do that.

Still love that cardboard box.

Water collection tanks:

Ive taken some renders of all the mostly done models, four survivors, 10 zombies, all base components besides the Kitchen/Storehouse.

On about 15 pages of rules, but getting those closer to sharing stage.

Interesting concept, and congratulations on your first year finishing so successfully. Look forward to seeing how it all progresses.

Thanks! It was all a big gamble but it worked out nicely, we'll see how this product design thing goes.

It'd be interesting if the focus was more on the survival than the zombies, and might give scope for expansions. Something like Cormac McCarthy's The Road, for instance, would be interesting, hiding from cannibalistic hunters whilst trying to find food. Same mechanics in each expansion, just different things to run away from, rather than only zombies.

With something like this I do plan on having expansions, but they will typically be rival humans. The rules are set up to allow for single player, coop or player vs player, so it kind of depends on what kind of game you are looking for.

It is survival centric though, its set up to where you are almost guaranteed to die out, but thats going to take a lot of play testing to get balanced right. Right now everything is just a rough draft.

There was a computer game called Banished that came out a few years ago, where depending on the game setup the first part of the game is the hardest, simply surviving the initial winter, and I want this to have a similar feel.

From the current rule draft intro:

GAME DESCRIPTION

Home in the After is a survival game based in a post zombie outbreak. Your base has recently reached a state of relative equilibrium: there is enough provisions for the current inhabitants, there are those fit enough to venture out of your walls to search for food and supplies, and there are defenses in place to keep your people separated from the horrors of the outside world. For now.

Home in the After can be played as a single player, cooperative, or player vs player game. The goal is survival, and despite your best intentions, the future looks bleak for your inhabitants. The game progresses day by day, with each morning bringing a new calamity to overcome, a new shortage of supplies, and you’ll have to determine what risks are outweighed by what rewards.

Printed out the first prototype of the Kitchen/Storehouse, and managed to forget something as simple as thickening the solar panels, so they were actually thinner than the supports used to grow them, so I quickly broke them. : / But hey, thats what prototypes are for.

Heres what the successful future prints should look like now that the problems have been fixed.

Finished the last female Runner today. I wanted her to be a tall, muscular runner and opted to have a simple but effect hammer weapon as well as carrying her pack over the shoulder.

Base is getting settled in.

Thanks! Its turned out to be a lot 'easier' than expected, it does help to not hate what youre doing, thats for sure.

Heres the first Objective location Ive modeled, a burned out traffic pileup. These are being designed for the Form 2 printer, so they are much larger at about 65mmx110mm.

Worked on a new survivor today as well as a new Objective (Doomsday Bunker). Also went back and worked on some previous Runner models.

Modeled the Gas Station objective. I may, eventually, make this a little bit smaller as its quite tall, but the basic idea is there.

Wanted to make sure the gas mask zombie had the mask embedded in its skin.

Also sculpted a suitably creepy doctor for the camp.
