Hi people. I was just wondering what you thought was better between a 10 man full plasma support squad and a 10 man volkite heavy support squad and why.

Thx for your opinion.

Totally depends on your army.

The plasma squad will deal a huge amount of damage to one unit then it will die horribly because they bring a huge amount of killing potential.

Volkite are more likely to be left alive but don't score and take a heavy slot. They do huge damage to with large range and destroy hordes but are less effective vs deathstats of 2+ saves and primarchs than the plasma squad.

Now if you are playing death guard with the reaping volkite looks much better than normal as they can score for you.

Plasma Support Squad with Dreadclaw will guarantee that 1-2 of your other units will not get shot at while the dreadclaw or/and plasma support squad remains alive.

Dunno how opposed are you to the self immolation a plasma support squad will suffer, faced a death guard player tuesday he killed 2 of his own guys with the first round of shooting they did.

Suicide is always an option if it eliminates a threat.

This statement is true, and it's validity is not limited to a game of Warhammer. Well said!

You can always run an Apothecary with a Plasma squad to help with the 1s.

But really a plasma squad is a suicide squad. Get them within rapid fire range, eliminate a unit, and then expect to kiss them goodbye.

And oi vey, are they expensive!

Volkite Chargers or calivers are cheap and cheerful, both are intended for different jobs, the chargers are used to move up the field and hit with there assault 2 weapons, where as calivers have a 30" range and are better suited to support, they are also str6.

Plasma guns are a lot more expensive, and you must have a transport of some sort to get there massive killing power anywhere near the enemy, they are mainly used for killing light to medium vehicles and heavy infantry, which is in abundance in 30k

I'm a big fan of volkite, 10 guys put out a lot of killing power armed with calivers and chargers are not a bad option either.
