So, I have some rather veteran status brushes, and although they still paint well, they have become gunked and stained with the various colors, specifically reds, since that is my main army color. Would soaking the brushes in some 70% Isopropyl Alcohol work to clean them out well? Just figured I would ask before potentially destroying about 100 USD of brushes

No that will more likely kill them. It'll strip all the oils out of the hairs. Get a dedicated artists brush cleaner like The Masters brush soap.
