It's been many, many years since I played Mordheim, but looking back, I can safely say it was the most fun game GW ever brought out that I ever played (WHFB, 40K, Epic, BFG, Space Hulk, are all ones I've played too). Reason behind this being the advancement of your warband... the after-battle was as much fun, if not more than the skirmish itself. I used to have 2 different Warbands - Marienburgers (sp?) and Skaven. Loved the progression from battle to battle, and at my club of many years ago, we didn't just start over the warbands again at the end of every campaign, but actually continued them.
So I am wondering if many people know of a reasonable number who still play? Also, how long have you kept your warband going before?

When it came to tactics, one thing it took us all a while to realise was that having 3 henchmen groups of 1 model was better than having 1 group of 3 because then you increased your chances of rolling a decent result on the advances when the time came. So that model that ended up with +1A and +1S very early on was the group you then added further henchmen to whilst not reinforcing the model who rolled +1I for example. Another thing I remember noticed was that somethings payed off massively in the long run for their cost, such as lucky charms and many other things that weren't 'one use only' items. Finally, equipping heroes with parrying weapons/bucklers was very important to keep them alive longer for their rolls on the exploration table at the end of the game - this was far more important than armour. It was even more relevant to low Weapon Skill Heroes, because it didn't matter if their opponent *could* hit them if they rolled a 3 - that 3 was getting parried with a parry + reroll the vast majority of the time. Parry ironically became a slightly more beneficial rule for those with a low WS than the true sword masters with high WS.

The sudden excitement over Shadow Wars reinvigorated my interest in the game and encouraged me to pick a Skaven Warband shown below. I'm just concerned that I will not be able to find many to play the game with - especially people who will accept playing a Warband already halfway through it's journey. What's your experiences of this?

Anyhow here would be my starting list:

Heroes:
Assassin Adept
Dagger, Weeping Blades

Black Skaven
Dagger, 2 Swords

Black Skaven
Dagger, 2 Swords

Eshin Sorcerer
Dagger, Sword

Night Runner
Dagger, Weeping Blades

Night Runner
Dagger, Weeping blades

Henchmen
1 Verminkin
Dagger, Club, Sling

1 Verminkin
Dagger, Club, Sling

1 Verminkin
Dagger, Club, Sling

500gp cost

The Night Runners get the additional Weeping Blades over the Black Skaven because a Black Skaven is usually striking first, hitting on 3+ and wounding on 3+ anyway with 2 attacks, so needs less help than the Night Runners who will usually be hitting on a 4+ and wounding on a 4+.
With equipping expensively early on, it will only be costing 25gp (+2gp per exp point) to add Verminkin to the henchmen groups after each battle, so the numbers of the warband could escalate very quickly, since I wouldn't be saving up for a huge purchase.

What's your thoughts?
