All, right, the Primaris Marines are coming, and although the fluff seems a bit painful, the models are absolutely stunning. I think that rather than adding them to my existing chapter though, I'd rather start a new pure Primaris chapter. So I need a new colour scheme.

When painting my Crimsom Templars, I always found painting the white parts more fun than the red parts, as you can weather white way more effectively than the red. Still, red and white are good, solid, imperial colours. So more white, less red:


I really liked the shoulder markings for genestealer cults, so instead of traditional codex arrows for squad markings, I think I'll go with something like that instead.

I still don't have a name. Perhaps something thunder-related because there are lightning bolts on the chapter icon. Too bad that 'Storm Lords' and 'Storm Giants' are taken...

Here's some name ideas if you're feeling the Latin:
Latin words for lightning: adtonitus, fulmen, ignis, fulger, coruscatio
Latin Words for thunder: attono, intono, bronte, strepo
Red: ruber, rubra, rubrum
White: Albus, -a, -um
Vortex is latin for tornado, cool but maybe not what you;re looking for.

Nothing there really jumps out at me, but maybe you'll see something you like. Coming up with short punchy chapter names is hard. Storm Riders is cool, plus its got built in Chapter theme music.

Fenris-77's Latin words will be a great thing to work off, and remember if you can't get anything that sounds right with pure Latin you can just mix Latin and English in a name because Imperial Gothic doesn't give a damn.

I think I want to use different helmet colours and helmet stripes somehow. White, red and black, maybe even yellow. And those shoulder stripe things might end up having some sort of discernible logic; maybe black and white for regular dudes and red and white for veterans. Not really sure at this point, as we really do not have an idea what sort of units and organisation Primaris marines end up having. I mean if they're all brand new, maybe they won't even have veterans!

True, but I think in the next 5 years, they will just be "marines" and will have supplanted most normal ones - always pays to plan ahead.

Deep yellow would look cool on the helmets, but then you're close to Storm Lords territory etc. Or, simply swap the red/white in your basic unit for the veterans so they really stand out. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this.

I like the scheme. It's very solid. Markings & chapter symbol are great too!

My only remark would be the type of weathering. The Photoshop design turned out really brown. Being a graphic designer, I know getting a clean white in PS is very tedious work. Is this why you went for a more brownish finish?

I agree that white lends itself perfectly for weathering, but I do hope you plan on retaining the whiteness. Perhaps go for a more muddy weathering (liquid based), rather than a dusty (aerial based) weathering?

The photoshopped pic is somewhat more brownish than the intended colour, but I'm not going for pure white anyway. Aiming for some sort of eggshell white.

I'm considering a grey rather then white anyway. proably easier to paint
