As 7th had one foot out the door, I got really excited about Castellans. I only got in a couple of games with the formation, but I loved the way it could replicate an army that felt pulled together from all over Imperial military and civilian society. The fact that you could do some elite power-armored troops from off-world (like Marines or Battle Sisters), some Planetary Defense Force units, an Inquisitorial detachment supported by local law enforcement, and an unruly mob of fanatics hopped up on bathtub gin and chanting the Imperial Creed felt very cool and fluffy, and as a bonus, there were actually advantages to doing it.

Now Castellans is gone, but the broad Faction keyword "Imperium" allows similar builds. What are some killer combos people are thinking about across subfactions but within the Imperium? Stuff that you'd never have built a full single-faction army around, but now you realize you can run those units for the sake of synergy and not pay a huge price for including limited selections from a subfaction.

For example, I might try to field a unit of AM Conscripts as a hive gang or imperial cult, led by some combination of an Inquisitor, a Priest, and/or a Commissar. I'd never have built a Guard army just to try it, but now I don't have to.

Other ideas:
Inquisitor, Acolytes, and Crusaders in a Chimera.
Veterans with Grenade Launchers and Heavy Flamer, Commissar.
Special Weapons squad with Sniper Rifles
Scions (they just seem awesome in this edition...)

Who goes well with whom?
