Just curious how everyone see's these being built out in this edition. I'm not interested in everyone being upset because drop pods aren't a thing anymore, but I'm just not entirely sure how to arm mine. One was already built with an assault cannon and CCW, so he's staying, but I still have one entirely on sprue. I'm building a heavy close combat army so I'm liking the thought of 3 Heavy Flamers, but that's a long walk at 6" a turn to get into combat. But if I'm moving, virtually all the other weapons are Heavy, so I'm only hitting on 4+ anyway. What are y'alls thoughts?

Night Lord XIII Company: 6,600 Points, 12W-4L
Skaven Cheese-stealer Renegade Cult: 2,000 points, 0-0
Warboss Spine Squisha's Ork Warband: 3,000 Points, 1W-3L
Carcharadons Astra: 2000 Points, 11-2
Drukhari: 1250 Points, 2-0

All the way back in 5th, I found Dreadnoughts with TL Lascannons and Heavy Flamers to be excellent back-field protectors, especially back supporting your Devestators, Scout Snipers, or long-range tanks/artillery. Now that Dreads have been brought up in overall strength and durability, I could see this becoming a standard loadout for support.

I also like the idea of a Assault Cannon & Heavy Flamer Dreadnought as a mid-range support unit that marches alongside the Rhinos/Razorbacks carrying Troops up the field.

Melee Dreads like SW Venerables, Furiosos, Death Company, and Ironclad Dreadnoughts will have a tough time getting across the field without Drop Pods to carry them. Storm Ravens can carry them up, but that is less secure a method.

I like the idea of bringing an all Dreadnought army. That could be a lot of fun.

You should build the other one with either 2 Twin Autocannons or Twin Lascannon and Missile Launcher. This will give you a fire support dreadnought.

For what it's worth I have 6 dreads, built the following ways:

1 Venerable and 1 Contemptor, both with Assault Cannons and Fists. These are my midfielders.

2 Ironclads with Hammer, Fist, assault launchers and dual HF. These are for up close.

2 Venerables with 2x TL AC each. "Riflemen" backfielders.

Not sure if i like giving up the fist though.

thats a lot of CC power and flexibility when dealing with drop and sneaky armies.

i do like the las cannon fire base though.

How are you guys liking the auto cannon.

This is exactly how i have my all-star dreadnought modeled. He's a champion. I played him in a game of 8th and he rocked everything in the face.

I could easily see having a few of these as back-line support to protect rangey units.

I may still be running at least one Rifleman dread in addition to a CC dread.

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.
