Basing your decision on appearance and fluff (not tabletop ability), which would you pick?

Thousand Sons, hands down. Beautifully tragic and an amazing aesthetic to work with.

Actually though; the guy is second in psychic might only to the big E himself.

TS is a Greek tragedy.
AL is a complete mystery.

What can I say, I like me the strong and mysterious type.

I'll take the 1K sons, a fleshed out Legion with a compelling tragedy behind it over a rediculas nonsensical meme anyday

Hmmm, tricky. the fluff of the Thousand Sons is really nice, but if you want to go as little less 'lots of Space Marines' and more INQ28-style cells with one Marine and a load of cultists then Alpha Legions works fantastically. Slightly more amenable to doing something slightly different with.

Also, I tend to find the KSons models a little OTT. I like the 'space egyptian' aesthetic, but I'd love to see someone try and meld that idea with 'gothic techno-knight'. The 30k range does quite nicely with that, so maybe meld the two?

Alpha Legion. They look cool without being over the top (unlike a certain legion of wannabe Egyptians), they are wonderfully mysterious and enigmatic (The FW team actually manages to write them in a good way, unlike certain incompetent idiots at Black Library).
Besides that, on the tabletop they have really fun rules and if you can't choose, then the AL will let you use TS units as well.

That said, I really like the TS as well, both are awesome choices.

It's hard for me to back the Alpa Legion based on fluff because of how stupidly mysterious they are. Thousand Sons have a good bit of mysticism while still having well-defined characters and motivations. The only thing I know about Alpha Legion is "I am Alpharius" and that they listened to the Cabal, maybe.

And that's only if what you were reading was really about the Alpha Legion, or maybe that TS fluff you read was really just AL fluff...

1k Sons for me! Although I like the post-heresy colors more than the 30k.

Thousand Sons for me too. I really love the back story and he fluff.
