Hey all a local club is hosting a 1500 tourney. I'm planning to be that guy. Looking for input. I play grey knights and am having concerns about swarms. So I'm leaning towards an alpha strike list i think i can severally damage most lists on turn one.

540 Knight Crusader- gat cannon -battle cannon -stubber

Air wing detachment
311 storm raven TAC melta 2SSML, HB
311 storm raven Tac Melta 2SSML. HB
326 storm raven las melta 2SSML, HB

1488. plan is to get first turn and kill what ever threaten the birds turn one. then 4 turns of clean up (i just need to pray no seize). i will be honest have not played this list out, but I'm thinking i can easily kill 3 tanks and a couple of infantry squads turn one. the only thing I'm thinking of is switching a las for a TAC and a melta for a Missile launcher. that would have it come out to 1499

I would like to ask opinions if you got em, i do know I'm that guy please have mercy. and what and how your strategy would be if you ran into this list with your non tailored army.

Well lets see. You will get to go first probably unless you run into a Dedicated Knights player (Will on field 3 models) or someone running a Single Warhound (Doubtful). If they go first focus on your Knight you could have trouble. Also I don't see you having enough fire power to deal with a hefty horde army. Huge amounts of Boyz and Gaunts could give you issues along with guard. I mean 90 boyz clocks in at under 550 points, 100 conscripts w 2 commissars at around 350, and 90 Termagaunts around 350 as well. Also Character cheese could be a problem as you don't have really anyway to get around the Cullexus.

All in all to be fairly blunt I don't think your list will do well at all.

Your only scoring unit would be the knight? Isn't that super risky? What missions are you going to play?

Do flyers not count as scoring? I thought they got rid of the concept of scoring all together for 8th and made it total number of models around the center of obj. plan is to place my half of object in wide open areas with no cover to infantry, that + 1 save will hurt my shooting. I don't know what missions but when I look at my choices for units I value less units bc of the first turn perk

Hey man thanks for the honesty. this is theory base but I think hurricane bolters are really strong. I probably did the math wrong but one storm raven at rapid fire 24 str 4 kills ~6-7 boys a turn. so that's 20 in theory from the 3 plus 2TAC and crusader. what can the boys truly do to threaten beside objective sit. I am worried about tyranids more than guard (flying Hive tyrants). have any opinions on what spaces marines can take to stop hordes? I want them to go on the knight. he is a distraction carnifex and a tolken unit for the opponent to go for once he figures he cant kill the birds(I'm hoping). and don't I just move away from the cullexus or shoot him last?
I think I can do more than 500 points worth of damage on turn one that's gives me a large points advantage to survive the rest of the battle kill the stuff that threatens the birds and clean up from there. that's the goal of this alpha strike. Am I ignorant or naive?

Hey all, I wanted to give an update (brag) about how the tournament went and in particular the list. It was my first tournament and I made some rookie mistakes, but I ended up taking first place by one point. there were 3 guys who ended up going 3-0. I won by one point due to the first game mode being kill points.

myself 3 ravens and a crusader
IG 7 taurox prime with bunch of scions(I think) with either meltas or plasma
Dark elder - transport spam with raiders(dark lances)

game one- vs a crusader and nurgle units. I underestimated nurgle physic powers and lost two birds when I got close ( turn 3 win)
game two- Primaris units and a raven. he seized and focused my knight. i focused raven first then erased everything (turn two win)
game three- two knight paladins and a crusader. he didn't get a charge off. my third turn i positioned 2 birds and blocked to any attempt to charge my crusader in the corner (turn 4 win)
hope you guys are enjoying 8th. the next tournament is in 3 weeks and i think ima bring a knight Acheron to be even more of that guy. may the dice roll in your favor.
