Now that the Index has hit the streets, wanted to ask for people's impressions of Imperial Armor Forces of Chaos.

I have enough Forgeworld models that I need the rules. This goes for my Fire Raptor, Sicarans, Spartans, and Rapiers.

At the same time, I heard it sounds like the book has some quality issues, and there are some problems with wording that prevent these units from being used in a battle forged army. It feels bad buying anything with big defects.

Is it true that there are serious quality issues with the book? Would it make more sense to wait until a FAQ is issued, or for another edition to come out? It works out to about $24 for me, so not a big investment, but I have SO many useless GW books right now.

It's typical FW editing, so yes, lots of typos, copy/paste errors, etc. Pretty sure the only army building issue is that they forgot to say which units can be DEATH GUARD and THOUSAND SONS tho, everything else works fine.

Oh, yeah, you can only have 50% Relic units per detachment, so Relic Lords of War are iffy.

The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.

The RELIC rule is in the Loyalist book, not the Chaos one.

Get the ePub version as it's cheaper and you don't have to pay postage (and hopefully they'll add the FAQ/errata to it later!) - http://www.warhammerdigital.com/warhammer-40000/featured/forces-of-chaos-index.html

Where are you seeing this? The only additional rules I can find are for macro weapons and arch daemonic rituals. There are no relic vehicles anymore.
Also there's nothing in the actual book but your supposed to be able to use all of these units with any legion. They said they'd change in in upcoming publications.
Given how this has no lore at all I'm not sure what to expect exactly but it seems like these are just placeholders like the GW indices and not meant as a final product.
It doesn't make much sense to me but it seems to me that we will be getting other books with the same units somewhere down the line and if so, I regret buying the index.

I have the book, there is no "relic" rule, there's simply "infernal" as a way to identify the Chaos over the not-Chaos versions of the same units.

There is also an issue where some of the infernal units have weapons that aren't obvious straight swaps for wysiwyg purposes (is an Infernal Leviathan's Butcher Cannon Array intended to be modeled with the Storm Cannon?) and, a bit of an annoyance for me for one of mine, some units that had 30K and IA13 crossover, such as Contemptors with two ranged arms, now have different 40K and 30K choices.

Then there's at least one missing unit, the Land Raider Proteus and Armoured Proteus are different with different weapon hard points (the Armoured has a twin hull weapon, specifically) yet the book has one entry under Proteus, yet appears to offer options for the Armoured (and no non-Armoured option, despite claiming both are available in the book on the site.)

There's at least one option given in war gear without permission to actually purchase it, there's one instance where a vehicle has two different explodes results listed and a bunch of typos which don't materially effect the meaning of the writing, but do demonstrate a substantive lack of care as they're so obvious.

But it is the only way I've got of fielding hundreds of ££ of models right now, and it was only £15.

*sigh*

I suppose I have to buy it now, but am doing so under protest.
