You know the drill, two friends are buying and splitting the starter box.
One takes only the sprues of one of the faction, the other take everything else (other faction sprues + rulebook + gubbinz).
How do you feel would be a fair splittin of the buying price ?
40%-60% ?
30%-70% ?

That's a tough question, in fairness, yes it probably should be more like 60%-40%, but I aslo know for a fact that I can sell half the sprues for about 50% about what a box is worth (atleast around here).
So, really is up to you how you feel about the split.

Would it be with a stranger, I would have aimed at getting back the most money I can.
But as said, it is a split between 2 friends, so the idea is to be fair to each other.

Since you're getting the faction + a hard back rulebook I'd say split it $100 - $60 (you're American, right?).

Go on eBay and price out the box based on the individual parts each side is getting. Then turn that into a percentage and apply to the price of the starter box to both parties.
If player A is only getting the Primaris Marines and they go for $80 on eBay, and player B is getting the the Deathguard($75), the Rulebook($40), and the other misc stuff($5), that equals $200. Of which player A is only getting 40% of the box's worth. Just an example as I am not sure what the prices really are.

The primaris do seem to go for a fair bit more on eBay I've noticed. I just bought the box for the book and I'm selling all the models!

No I'm not, just hadn't changed my country in the profile section 
But 100$/60$ is roughly 60/40% which seems pretty fair to me.
