So a friend down the coast from me suggested I get on to Dakka as it is apparently a really good place to discuss all things 40k, amongst other things. As I am a recent 8th edition returnee (oh the cliche...) I thought I'd follow his suggestion. ^_^
I'm South African, currently living on the sub-tropical KZN coast, and while I've been wargaming actively the last few years, I haven't played 40k since I think 3e? My brother and I got into 40k (as into every other scifi/fantasy hobbygame you could name from the late 90's/early 00's) but both stopped playing when life happened after varsity. Luckily I have a partner how who not only tolerates my love for little man-dollies but is actively interested herself and so we're learning 8e together. So bear with me if I ask stupid, anachronistic questions and bring up stuff from other games - I'm a huge systems nerd so rulesets are always a big draw for me.
Other tabletop skirmish/war games I play or have played:
- Infinity (learning this slowly inbetween other games. Really enjoying the granularity of the game.)
- SAGA (absolutely LOVE this game. So wish more people could look past the historical theming to see the fantastic game underneath)
- Gruntz
- Stargrunt
- Tomorrow's War
- Full Thrust
- Dungeon Command
- D&D Miniatures Game (DDM)
- D&D Attack Wing
I'm a big fan of 15mm minis, which I think is the ideal scale compromise between nice detailed sculpts yet still small and ultra-portable and able to field large armies, but the world at large, sadly, does not seem to agree with me.
Oh, I also enjoy moonlit walks on the beach and puppies and rainbows and stuff. :-P

Hello and welcome! I love South Africa. My brother married a South African and we went out there for the wedding a few years ago, had the holiday of a lifetime. Didn't make it over your way though...
