Subject: [2000] - Necrons - Countering Magnus and friends
My local meta have been playing a lot of Tzeentch recently and when I say Tzeentch I mean Magnus, Flying Daemon Princes, Lord of Change, Changling etc. Just a lot of smite spam, ds units and fast using units that can fly.
Anyway, I have been making several different lists and just wondered which list you thought was the best in terms of going lists with the above units.
All CC is welcome, looking to make the list tournament standard.
(FW) Tesseract Ark
. Two Tesla Cannons: 2x Tesla Cannon
(FW) Tesseract Ark
. Two Tesla Cannons: 2x Tesla Cannon
The plan is to have both the Overlords My Will Be Done the units of Immortals to give them +1 BS, advance and charge and have the Lord in the center of the warrior blob to re-roll morale.
Scarabs will act as screens and to soak up smite spam, other pysk powers and lock units in CC.
Tomb Sentinel will DS T1 or 2 behind my opponent and will layout its D6 heavy shoots before charging. I plan to have it always charging and never moving so I can get the most out of it exile cannon.
The Stalker will always be 1st unit to shoot to let other Necrons re-roll 1s for hitting if they target the same enemy unit.
Deathmarks are for counter DS or to DS and take out a Character like a Changling or get an objective
List 3 every time. It needs only two shots to get past a 4++ to kill him in one turn with good D3 rolls, or 3 shots past to guarantee him dead T1. Scarabs are a very good answer to hordes I have found, they are fast, hit well and mulch hordes with their weight of dice. I feel most comp lists will have them.

Thanks for the reply. I was think of list 1 personally due to -1 not being to big of an issue and having two TA is great when you want one as a flamer and one for mid-long range shooting. But, flyer spam can/will be a thing so having anti-air might be helpful.
I am using quite a lot of D6 shoot weapons which do D6 wounds as well so hopefully I will be able to knock down Magnus by at least T2 but I am hoping for T1. He does get to re-roll 1s tho...
Yeah Scarabs are surprisingly good and worth their 13 pts per model. I like using them for putting enemies in CC then have my necrons shoot at them unit I held up and have the scarabs fall back to do more damage. They will screen when needed to and make sure they stop other units from CC.
You'll be getting first turn, and 1 pylon costs less (points wise) than 2 TA, and will almost guarantee to 1 shot magnus.
Its D6 shots @120", hits on 2+ due to fly, wounds on 2+. Does 7w minimum per shot, meaning 2 shots and magnus is down to most crippled teir immediately at minimum. From 1 gun. That also gives 5++ to your army. Its a huge 5++ too as the model is so big.
Its up to you, I kinda feel the pylon is an 'I win' button if we get the alpha strike.
Im taking my comp list against magnus, IK, changeling and smite spam tomorrow, will let you know how it goes.

list 3 had the Sentry Pylon, List 4 had the Gauss Pylon
The only problem with the Gauss Pylon is... I don't have one.. currently.. The tournament I am going to is in November so I have some time to get it at least!
What are your thought on the Sentry Pylon though for 150 pts as I have one of those ad could get a 2nd and field 2 of them for the moment? I also really want to try out the Tomb Sentinel and see if it is any good. its gun looks deadly with Heavy D6str 10 -4 dmgD6 although you will mostly be hitting on 4s, if you move....
Yeah man please let me know how you get on.

Yeah that's the problem, the pylon is super rare! Haha but yea a couple of sentries is good as well, the math is in our tactics page, outdages stalkers pretty well.

Do you not find it a bit agonizing looking for a post on a 90+ page forum?
unless there is a quicker way to find a post on a forum.
Anyway, thank you for the help! Going againta a list with Magnus in it. ill keep you posted on how I do I think ill take list 3 to give the sentry pylon a go!
