Ive been collecting but never playing with a Salamanders army over the past few years. I've just got into gaming with it at the start of 8th. My friends and I have been playing 1000 points, so this list is based on my current one plus some of the models I have available.

Vulkan He'stan

Captain - Chainsword, MC boltgun

Tac Squad x 5 - Chainsword, combi-flamer, flamer

Tac Squad x 5 - Chainsword, combi-flamer, plasmagun

Tac Squad x 5 - Chainsword, combi-melta, meltagun

Ironclad Dread - Chainsfist, DCCW, heavy flamer x 2, assault launchers

Sternguard x 5 - Chainsword, combi-melta x 5

Sternguard x 5 - Chainsword, heavy flamer x 2, combi-flamer x 3

Ven. Dread - Twin autocannon x 2

Devastators x 5 - Lascannon x 2, missile launcher x 2, cherub

Stormraven - Twin assault cannon, hurricane bolters, Typhoon missile launcher

Razorback - TAC, bolter

Razorback - TAC, bolter

Razorback - TAC, bolter

I worry that I haven't got enough anti tank, but my friends play Guard and Tyranids so I'm heavily influenced towards anti infantry. I would like the list to be able to be competitive against all comers though.

The general idea is to put whatevers needed in the raven, either flame Tactical and Sternguard or the melta versions (or even both Sternguard if I'm feeling spicy), with Vulkan and the Ironclad and drop it all where it can do the most damage. The Devs and dakka Dread sit back and shoot with the captain for reroll and whatevers not in the raven goes in the razorbacks and pushes forward.

So what I'd like to know is will this have any chance of working? What could I change that would make it more effective? I'm generally against anything in the fast attack slot because it's Sallies. I'd like to be able to plan a list I can work towards getting bought and painted because 1000 points is getting stale.

Also, it would be nice to find a use for those 5 drop pods I have painted but never got to use....

Looks pretty neat! If you wanted a bit more quick-killy, plasma pistols/guns on the tac squad might give a bit more much, there's already a ton of dakka in the list.

Which units are going in the stormraven?

Yeah I'm thinking about dropping one of the TACs from a razorback to allow me to afford a seismic hammer on the dread, combi plasma on the plasma tactical and a multi melta on the melta tactical. All to make better use of the CT rerolls.

Who goes in the stormraven depends on what I'm facing. I think both Sternguard and Vulkan gets best use of his rerolls, but having both the Melta Sternguard and Melta tactical may be better if there's lots of tanks on the board. And obviously the Ironclad too.
