Hey mates. While the Imperial Guard is my favorite Army, I can admit that lately I've had no motivation to start building mine due to the fact that there is no variety nor anything to look forward to in regards to the Imperial Guard Infantry. With that being said, I have been seriously looking at Anvil Industry Miniatures in order to create my own Valhallan Ice Warriors, however I run into the issue with not using GW models in games. Your thoughts on this?

I would be totally fine with it, though you would likely run into trouble at tournaments and the occasional jerk who would give you gak for it.

I use custom anvil minis for my guardsmen as well. Best decision I could've made. The quality is outstanding even tho it will cost you a small fortune to build a respectable force. I only ever got positive reactions.
I dont plan to ever go to a tournament tho, dont know about you.
Be sure to buy them in bulk as they'll become much cheaper that way. You'll need to do small conversions to fit special weapons apart from flamers (their flamers look awesome!) And sniper rifles. But apart from that anvil provides everything you could desire. Do it!

I would totally allow it. Under normal circumstances, I always encourage people to support GW but these are not normal circumstances. We have been asking for new infantry models for decades. Month after month, year after year they have ignored us. We want to support GW but they are not providing a means for us to do so. Anvil Industry Miniatures has some pretty nice models, so they are a good alternative.

Unless you play exclusively in GW stores the source of your models is not really a big deal.

I might be the only IG player who doesn't want new infantry kits. Skulls, aquilae and other unnecessary bling on every possible surface. No thank you.

What is up with that lately? All the new space marines have like skull ornaments between their junk. It looks terrible. Look:

If they ever do release more infantry models, I hope they keep it simple & look to the older regiments for inspiration.

I play at local store's for tournaments and games atm. Plus I plan to field these guys as Stormtroopers so I don't need to get as many overall thankfully and I do plan to get a 2nd Army utilizing White Scars so I will be able to field in an actual 40K Army in a GW run tournament if I have to.

That should do just fine. I keep a small IG contingent to work with my SOB. I use some of the convict soldier models from Victoria for my troops as the fluff for my regiment is a Penal Legion. I've only ever received positive responses.

Anvil makes good stuff. IIRC it does seem to be slightly different scale than GW guard.

It's actually more or less spot on. The differences I can see are due to the models poses - Anvil Industry models have a more natural pose which makes them look smaller, while GW models gave some goofy stances that make them look bigger.

But, mixed together, you wouldn't see the difference unless you were anal enough to check.

I think Warlord has plastic WWII Soviets in winter coats which (obviously) will look even more Valhallan and save you some money.

The main issue would be guns, if you use their SMGs they look more sci-fi than the bolt action guns and can pass as las guns.
Then you can get special and heavy weapons from bits or 3rd party sellers.

The only problem is that warlord minis are 28mm true scale not heroic scale like GW minis. While you could do a few, most heavy weapons will be hilariously big and you might have yo resort to a lot of count as or proxies.
